Six Ibises, their white reflections, and some random scattered gulls stand in calm, shallow blue ocean water. The water spans the entire photo. On the right side are patches of foamy water that were, minutes before, small gentle waves reaching the shore. In the top left are white and gray verical reflections of unseen buildings.
Here's a congregation of #Ibises and their reflections for alt #BirdoftheDay #WhattheFlock. The main theme today is #Petals&Perches.
Have a beautiful Tuesday, friends✨

A close-up photo of an eastern cottontail rabbit (Sylvilagus floridanus) nestled in tall green grass, facing toward the left of frame, with tall ears, large dark eyes, brown and tan speckled fur, and a long blade of grass sticking out of its mouth.
A photo of a male cinnamon teal duck (Spatula cyanoptera) swimming toward the left in water covered with red floating aquatic fern. It is a striking chestnut colored duck with a dark cinnamon colored head, mottled brown back, bright red eyes, and a black bill. The lighting is dim and diffuse and tall green grasses grow in the background behind it.
A photo of a very small snake, perhaps a young aquatic garter snake, curled upon itself in a small patch of late afternoon sunlight on a log in a forest. It is black with an off-white stripe extending all the way down its back. It is surrounded by thorny-stemmed plants with bright green leaves.
A photo of a male yellow-headed blackbird (Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus) launching itself off of the end of a cattail toward the right of frame, wings spread in front of it revealing white wing patches on its shoulders. It is a black songbird with a striking yellow head and neck with a black mask around its eyes and a sharp black beak. The lighting is dim and diffuse in the later afternoon or early evening with out of focus cattails, reeds, and water in the background.
Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is really hopping with spring wildlife right now. Saw so much good stuff there last night. Thank you to @jonathanfoodie.bsky.social for always being its hype man on here so I'm inspired to go, and for so many other recommendations for nearby birding.

Drone view of hot lava streams over dark black lava landscape. In the distance is a mountain with a patch of sunset brightness on the horizon. Blueish smoke rises.
A drone view over a river estuary where there are pretty channels meeting a paler grey area with visible streams and ripples. Looks a bit like a wave breaking.
A view over a colour river estuary with pale cream and blue streams and channels, with some brown and gold sand banks visible.
A view over a hot bubbling pool with some colourful run-off. It looks a bit like a burning comet falling through the air, an eye with tears or lashes streaming from it, or a jellyfish with long tentacles. The pool is blue and the run off area is pale pink and green, with some green grasses and red rocks surrounding it.
Celebrating five years of drone ownership, renewing my flyer ID today with 38/40 on the test (yay!).
Here's a few of my favourite drone photographs from the past few years from #Iceland. Such a fun addition to my trips there :)

That look says everything.
Soaked through, feathers heavy, and absolutely no patience left for anything that isn’t breakfast. You can almost feel the attitude coming off this baldie I met on this mornings walk.

A photograph of a male Redstart that has a beautiful orange chest with a black face. He is perched on a dead branch with his head turned to the right as viewed just showing the top of his slate grey cap and shoulders. It is a bright sunny day with yellow flowers of gorse bushes just showing in the foreground and bright green spring leaves blurring in the distance behind.
First time out with my camera in a while yesterday and was delighted to see some gorgeous Common Redstarts. This male perched beautifully in among the gorse bushes for a few moments 🧡 📷 🪶

"3 Buttes - 2 Mittens and a Merrick"
A visit to Monument Valley in Utah. My best photos cannot give the scale and beauty of this place. Mittens Buttes (Left / East Mitten and Right / West Mitten) and Merrick Butte. #MonumentValley #Photography #EastCoastKin
This works for both themes of #BirdOfTheDay, #Petals&Perches any bird with flowers in capture. The alt is #WhatTheFlock any capture of three or more of the same bird. #birds #photography #ECK #WestCoastKin #PhotographersUnited
From a couple of years ago, a Mama Wood Duck & 3 ducklings & Foxglove
Close-up of a Eurasian jackdaw perched among leafy branches with clusters of red-orange blossoms. The bird is shown in profile, its glossy black body contrasting with a pale grey nape and striking pale blue eye. Sunlight highlights the layered feathers on its back and wing, while the soft, blurred background of flowers and greenery adds a warm, colourful backdrop.
Oh my goodness my notifications are off the scale. I will try my best to answer everybody and look at as many #BirdOfTheDay entries as I can. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. 🙏 #birds #Perches&Petals #photography #ECK

So I rode my bike down to the river yesterday and brought the new R6II with me and oh wow, yeah, okay this was definitely a good investment

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #SmallBirdsInFlight.
Here is a Rufous-tailed Hummingbird looking for dinner.

An American Goldfinch with a merry gleam in his eye (and I’d almost say a smile on his face) employing something between a leap and a tumble, launches into flight on a bright February morning. [l have always presumed that birds start to spread their wings prior to launching themselves, but this fellow is proving me to be quite wrong about that.]
The Goldfinch nonchalantly takes flight.

I went for a walk yesterday to take some pictures of birds and test out the new R6II, and man this thing’s autofocus is scary good even on an adapted EF lens. I haven’t even tried the pre-shooting mode yet but I can tell this is gonna be a lot of fun
Anyway I’m working from home tomorrow and I fully expect to not get any work done because I’ll be out putting this thing through it’s paces and getting used to the new features, hopefully it’ll help me up my game when it comes to capturing shots of birds 🙏
Selling my Sony gear also helped finance all this my return wasn’t THAT big lol
“Wait why’d you get the R6II and not an R6III?” I said I got a nice tax return not that I won the Powerball let’s not get ahead of ourselves
Picture of a bunch of canon camera gear sitting on my desk including a 100-400mm IS USM II lens, an EF-EOS R adapter, the Canon R6II camera body, and an off-brand 2x teleconverter but I didn’t buy that I just had it sitting in my closet for years because I put it up for sale and forgot about it.
I had been feeling like I wanted some change in my life, and after a generous tax return this year, well…
There should be a qualifier when putting these lists together like “are you just an enthusiast or an actual professional” because yeah obviously the A9III is “the best” but I can never justify owning one unless I start doing photography full time or win the powerball, both equally unlikely
Anyway I was talking with two coworkers, both Canon shooters, this week about photography which was dangerous in hindsight because now I’m really just looking for a reason I shouldn’t sell my Sony kit and pick up an EOS R6II 👀
Looking up lists of “best cameras for ____” is always a pointless exercise because inevitably the #1 spot is some flagship like the Sony A9III or the Canon EOS R1 like yeah buddy I’d imagine they’re the best, for $7000 I better be able to look through the viewfinder and see Jesus
A male cardinal standing in front of some palm fronds while perched atop a tree stump. #birds
Felt like the coldest morning yet in this epic deep freeze, as you can see by how floofy this beautiful Northern Cardinal is! It's amazing they can survive this bitter weather. 🤎❄️❤️ #Cardinal #CentralPark #birding
