What can the EU do for a fair & sustainable textile sector?🧶👚
The answer starts with stronger action.
The EU is one of the world’s biggest textile markets, yet its demand still drives overproduction, pollution & exploitation globally.

On World Banana Day, we celebrate a fruit loved by everyone 🍌
A banana may seem ordinary, but choosing Fairtrade makes a real difference 🌱
With the Banana Run, we made this message impossible to ignore 🚀

Thank you to MEPs Delara Burkhardt, @pcanfin.bsky.social, @spietikainen.bsky.social @catarina-europe.bsky.social and Monika Hencsey from @euenvironmentandclimate.ec.europa.eu and all participating organisations.
Delighted to be at the launch of the EU Sustainable Supply Chains Coalition at the European Parliament.
The FTAO is pleased to work hand in hand with partners across sectors to promote strong legislation that protects forests, upholds human rights & fosters resilient & sustainable value chains. 🌳🧑🌾
As the European Commission gears up to present a Delegated Act on Textiles under the #ESPR in 2027, the FTAO has submitted feedback to the JRC's preparatory study shaping that proposal, calling for stronger ambition for the future of the sector.

Current #EUOrganic rules impose disproportionate administrative & financial costs on producers.
The Commission's simplification proposal is a welcome step, but to truly deliver for smallholders & cooperatives it must go further.

This week, our senior policy & project coordinator, Alena Kahle joined stakeholders for the launch of the EU Due Diligence Navigator, implemented by @giz.de.
A much-needed tool providing clear guidance on the #CSDDD in partner countries!

Yesterday, South African judges urged MEPs at
@droi.europarl.europa.eu to support a ban on exporting EU-forbidden pesticides.
New research on smallholder farms in Kenya & Ghana backs this up: a phase-out is feasible, but must come with real support for farmers.

The #UTPDirective was meant to protect farmers, but fear of retaliation and weak enforcement still deter complaints.
Time to act and protect suppliers, within & beyond the EU.

Knowing the real impact companies have on people & nature:👍
Weakening reporting rules & allowing greenwashing:👎
While the EU tries to weaken sustainability rules, 29 organisations unite to demand strong & effective European Sustainability Reporting Standards!

Forced labour should have no place in global trade ❌
As the EU Forced Labour Regulation moves into implementation, clear guidance and robust accompanying measures are key to making it effective.

🌾👩🌾 Across the globe, too many farmers supplying to the EU are being forced to sell their produce below the cost of production.
The revision of the #UTPDirective is the chance to strengthen fairness in the agri-food supply chain & protect all farmers from this abusive practice.

In case you missed it: we broke two world records dressed as Fairtrade bananas 🏆

📩 We've sent a letter to Commissioner @christophehansen.bsky.social.
#FairTrade helps build fairer, more sustainable agricultural value chains. But voluntary initatives are not enough.
Strong public policies are needed to ensure farmers earn a decent income.

📣 Adopted! The @consilium.europa.eu has formally adopted new rules to strengthen cooperation against unfair trading practices in the agri-food sector.
Next step: strengthen the #UTPDirective to protect all suppliers.

It has been an honour to coordinate this work with fantastic partners committed to advancing #LivingIncome under #CSDDD.
Grateful for the support of @giz.de that made it possible & eager to keep working together to turn living income from an aspiration into a tangible reality.

Not sure about what % food represents here, but public procurement generally represents a massive 13% of GDP.. Govts are big spenders everywhere..

#Foodprocurement shapes the EU's health, resilience & sustainability. Yet 60% of contracts go to lowest price.
Ahed of tomorrow's #FoodDialogue, the @eufpc.bsky.social is calling on the EU to recognise food as strategic & make sustainable food the easiest choice.

🚨 JUST OUT! 32 organisations call for a stronger #UTPDirective.
Farmers still face pressure to sell below production costs, fear retaliation & endure unfair conditions.
The upcoming revision is a key chance to rebalance power in supply chains.

Due diligence can and must advance #LivingIncome for smallholder farmers and self-employed workers. 🌾👩🏾🌾
Honoured to convene this timely discussion at the European Parliament with LICOP, hosted by @saskiabricmont.bsky.social, on how risk-based due diligence can turn commitments into real impact.
Our new paper sets out concrete recommendations to make living income a real due diligence expectation under the #CSDDD:
✔️Responsible purchasing practices
✔️Fair prices & long-term relationships
✔️Strong protection for smallholders
✔️Clear expectations for companies

🚨 Just published: What should Living Income guidance look like under the #CSDDD?
For smallholder farmers, a living income means resilience to climate shocks, investing in their farms, educating their children & planning for the future.
The EU recognised this right. Now implementation must deliver.
