Today was my last day at @durham.ac.uk. What an incredible, exciting, and productive year it was! A huge thank you to the amazing @lenariab.bsky.social for welcoming me to her @insectneurolab.bsky.social group. Stay tuned for our findings on mosquito pupae behaviour and my next academic endeavour!

Predators hide against similarly coloured species to camouflage on the move Abstract. Many predators aim to approach prey without being detected or identified. Ambush predators often achieve this through camouflage, such as backgro

🚨Our new paper is out NOW in @jexpbiol.bsky.social πŸ‘€ Here we show that cuttlefish use visual contrast cues to inform their 3D camouflage, but these contrast cues can derive from true background features as well as exposure to dynamic lighting patterns. πŸ¦‘πŸ”†

In our latest paper, we describe how the passing-stripe hunting display of the broadclub cuttlefish camouflages the hunting predator during the final moments of the attack.

A photo of a small bobtail squid nestled on top of the sand. The squid is covered in dark spots but also has an iridescent sheen across its body with different shades of green and blue.

Is #MolluscMonday a thing? Here is some type of Sepiolida (Bobtail Squid) from Anilao in the Philippines. One of the best things about night dives in the tropics is finding these little ones.
