Every time I get gas at Costco, I feel like I am under enormous pressure to work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Judging by the people I end up stuck behind, it is clear that feeling is not universal.

A handspun DK weight 2-ply yarn. The color isn’t quite right—it’s more of a dusty mauve. Spun from a batt from MellyKnits: wool from merino/Corriedale cross blended with sari silk.
A wooden spinning wheel bobbin of singles next to some of the batt used to spin it. It had natural grey and dyed purple wool, along with white silk boo, purple sari silk, and lavender tussah silk.
An espinner bobbin full of 3-ply yarn along with the spun singles (2 on the same style of bobbin and one on a plastic storage bobbin) that went into it. From the top, dyed Haunui (died by Inglenook fibers on the fig base), ebony undyed Haunui, and sticklebatts also from Inglenook fiber and also using Haunui wool.
#SundaysAreForSpinning : the finished skein was plied last weekend. I started spinning a blend I made from a Fossil Fibers Cub shipment, but my wheel was being finicky. So I finished spinning the last of the singles for a Haunui combospin and plied the first skein today. #Handspinning #HandspunYarn
A folded handknit blanket in a chevron pattern. The yarns are in shades of green and it has a 70s vibe. Pattern: Chevron Baby Blanket by Espace Tricot Yarn: Organic Cotton (Worsted) by Blue Dky Fibers . From top to bottom, the colors are Pickle, Honeydew, Bay Leaf, Lemongrass, and Buttermint. Modifications: I worked 4 rows of the same color at the beginning and end of the blanket, which let me use the same stripe sequence throughout.
For #FOFriday : a blanket for a coworker’s baby. It had more of a retro vibe than I thought it would when I picked out the colors. Yarn and pattern details in the alt text. #Knitting #Knitsky 🧶
Bonus evening awoo!
The designer is German and chose the pattern name because it features an expansion joint of sorts for a better fit around the heel.
Three knitting projects in progress. On the left is a colorwork sweater worked in blue, white and pink (pattern is Morraine by Tincan Knits, the yarn is coned Harrisville Highland). On the right is a green lace cardigan (pattern is Hitofude by Hiroko Fukatsu, yarn is Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Lace Garn). At the bottom is a top-down sock featuring ribbing and horizontal welts (pattern is Dehnungsfuge by Nicola Susen) knit out of a pale yarn with bright speckles (a colorway from Must Stash Yarn).
#WIPWednesday: I finished the first cone of blue yarn. I’m going to pick up the collar and work at least one sleeve to get a better idea of the length. I should have enough green yarn for 2 more lace repeats. And still working on the sock. Yarn and pattern details in alt text. #KnitSky #Knitting 🧶
This is not a good time for the district to not be able to absolutely confirm that $3M is still in their control (only confirmed that it didn’t go out via wire transfer), or to be spending $700k to outside agencies to investigate the district finances.
I have it and wonder how it affects other things. When my kids ask me to spell a word, I have a hard time just spitting out the letters—I need to see it written down. I hated a college professor who would show a complicated equation and say “it simplifies to this”, skipping the intermediate steps.
I was at the SD61 caucus, and I hated every candidate and proxy who mentioned the lovely weather. Read the room —it wasn’t funny to get reminded of what we were missing out on.
A pair of handknit socks. The leg and top of the foot are 2x2 ribbing. The yarn is a variegated mix of grey and dark red. Pattern: Slow Morning DK by Camille Heng Yarn: West Yorkshire Spinners ColourLab DK in colorway “Rock”
#FOFriday : I bought the yarn in the summer of 2024 to knit socks for my husband for Christmas. I didn’t get to them (and gave him the ball of yarn as a placeholder). I started these on Christmas Day 2025 and only finished them last week. #KnitSky #Knitting #HandknitSocks 🧶
Three knitting projects in progress. The top is an inside out colorwork sweater worked on blue, white and pink (pattern is Morraine by Tincan Knits, the yarn is coned Harrisville Highland). At the bottom is a green lace cardigan (pattern is Hitofude by Hiroko Fukatsu, yarn is Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Lace Garn). At the right is a top-down sock featuring ribbing and horizontal welts (pattern is Dehnungsfuge by Nicola Susen) knit out of a pale yarn with bright speckles (a colorway from Must Stash Yarn).
I haven’t posted for #WIPWednesday on here in a while. I took a bit of a break on the colorwork sweater because of a broken cable, so coming back to it has been nice. And I knit this much of a sock in a week. Yarn and pattern details in alt text. #Knitting #Knitsky 🧶
The Chicago Way
A can of Off Color Brewing’s “Beer for Tacos.” Guess what we had for dinner tonight?
I’m relieved it happened, but who knows how long it will last? Guess what we had for dinner tonight.
Grocery bagging is a lost art.
This is why I made sure to sit next to my kid when the launch started.
I enjoyed the sentiment, and then I looked at who the poster was and enjoyed it even more.
I should have rephrased. I know the building is still serving as a school, but it’s no longer a “neighborhood” school.
Thanks for sharing that. And Harrison was closed while Bryn Mawr remains open, yet is in a corner of its catchment zone, making it inconvenient for most of its enrolled student population.
Once the Green Line Extension opens, it will also be easier for a chunk of Minneapolis to get to SLP High.
Jesse was already one of the most beloved background characters on #ThePitt , and after tonight’s episode his stock is only 📈 Although I’m sure those assholes took him partly to punish Robby for talking shit to them.
I worked (as a vendor) on a set of trials studying topical testosterone in cis women, and although they were intended to be double-blind, both the subjects and clinical staff could deduce treatment after a while in many cases.
I’m not even that tall, but some additions I would have;
-How many winter coats does Jane have to try on to find one that doesn’t leave 2 inches of her wrist exposed?
-Something about tall people also tending to have large foot sizes, and how that narrows the scope of cute shoes available.
Forgot it was the first Wednesday. Awoooo!
I think it was on a commentary podcast where RDM said something like “you can’t hate Baltar.” My reaction was “Oh yes, I can!” I’m sure he was a fun character to write, but I loathed him.
A skein of handspun yarn. It was the August 2025 Melly Knits Blossom Sommelier. Art. A blend of 90% Debouillet/5% sari silk/5% mulberry silk, this aqua 2-ply is just shy of 274 yards of heavy sport/light DK weight
2 spinning projects in progress, both with spun singles. On the left is a wooden spinning wheel bobbin with a blend of cream and gold singles. This was hand combed wool I blended on a hackle—a mixture of of undyed Texel, some dyed Shetland (in pale blue, pink, and green, which isn’t really noticeable in this shot), white mulberry silk, and gilded muga silk. On the right is an espinner with Ebony undyed Haunui.
I haven’t posted for #SundaysAreForSpinning in a while. ICE is still here in MN and we’re nearing another month end. Consider donating for rent relief at www.standwithminnesota.com
I remember there was a great thread on the Bad Place with freaky European folk costumes. A guy in a suit made of burrs, the Mari Lwyd, evil cow costumes, and lots of costumes incorporating straw.
As a knitter, I love this woman’s hat and sweater. I’m fairly certain both are handknit. Photography credit: Jana Hollingsworth/The Minnesota Star Tribune.
And the number 2 and 3 are at the university student unions (there are 2, on different ends of campus).
Spinners, not Spinnets 😡
