When your statistical model "fits the data well" ...
I thought exactly the same many, many times. Reviewers entirely ignore the methodological part of the paper and take its results at face value, but they will debate the "framing" of it in every little detail.
We tend to think that we understand how urbanization impacts biodiversity, but our knowledge is based almost solely on research from temperate systems. This creates strong biases. Wonderful new work by @elliediamant.bsky.social in @cp-trendsecolevo.bsky.social www.cell.com/trends/ecolo...
Great example of #WildlifeRestoration, featuring #WiRELab postdoc @m-mclellan.bsky.social and alumni Mateen Hessami in partnership with @biodivpathways.bsky.social and many more!

Five years on. Millions dead. COVID effectively endemic. The big story is how we are STILL in denial about airborne transmission of respiratory diseases. Good job, libertarians.

NEW PAPER: looking into the erosion of southern mountain caribou migrations. Over 35 years, migration distances shrank 15-25%, and elevational migrations are collapsing. Habitat loss, not weather, likely the main culprit. A major conservation challenge ahead.

Canadians in solidarity with Stand Up for Science.
I signed. The assault on science in Canada under the conservative Harper regime was not as extreme as the MAGA one, but came from the same desire to prevent scientists from speaking truth to power.
