#Trump’s rise wasn’t because people are ‘stupid’ he relates to people, channels their frustrations, and manipulates #systems cleverly, all while mocking the #marginalized and #disabled himself. Mocking him as an ‘idiot’ on the #left is equally misleading.
#Decline, #illness, and #aging are human realities not #political crises. Treating them as scapegoats for #societal problems is #ableist and distracts from the systems that actually create harm. We rarely have this conversation.
I love #idiocracy as #satire, but treating the idea that society is ‘breeding idiots’ as reality is #ableist. People’s worth isn’t measured by #IQ, and #political failure comes from #systems, not #cognitive difference.
There are people who, because of intellectual #disability, brain injury, #trauma, ##mentalhealth or #neurodivergence, will never be able to engage in abstract #political #theory. #Liberation politics has to make room for that reality instead of pretending it doesn’t exist.
If #political legitimacy depends on #theoretical capacity, what happens to people who will never have that capacity?
It’s especially disappointing when people who champion #theory and #academia ignore how intellectual disability, neurodivergence, and physical disability actually shape political participation. Ivory-tower activism that can’t grapple with disability justice isn’t radical it’s exclusion.
Also worth naming: IQ is basically pseudoscience with deep roots in #eugenics and #colonialism. Using ‘collective IQ’ as a #political insult isn’t clever it’s recycling harmful, discredited frameworks.
#Disability justice reminder: IQ language, contempt for ‘anti-intellectualism,’ and insisting organizing only counts in person all come from the same place #hierarchies about whose minds and bodies are valued in movements.
Frustrated with how often political critique slips into #ableist metaphors (‘collective IQ’), narrow ideas of intelligence, and rigid ideas about ‘real’ organizing needing physical presence. Movements don’t get stronger by excluding #disabled, remote, or non-academic people.
