Horray! This post is way old but I just decided to get back on blue sky today!

This is really hard for me too. I just actually listened to a podcast that touches on this. Let me go find it as it's a good listen.
Bay Area folks, my amazing husband and his partner opened a brewery in Oakland this year. They were just recognized as one of the best new breweries of 2024 in this nationally (and internationally) focused list. Come visit when you're in town! #iteachmath www.hopculture.com/best-new-bre...
Yes, I think you are right! But I just realized that your name is stuck in my head as I am attending the SVMI principal as leaders event that you are speaking at tomorrow! See you then.
@mathematize4all.bsky.social Good grief! Moving too fast. You didn't come to Berkeley. I think we only know each other from Twitter!
2/2 @mathematize4all.bsky.social I don't work in Berkeley anymore, but still fondly remember your visit a few years ago.
1/2 Thanks so much. I have a friend whose son was recently diagnosed and his school doesn't have anyone who has strong background knowledge of practices. So I am seeing research on practitioner practices and she is also interested in a tutor for him outside of school
Paging Megan Franke. Are you on BlueSky?
I am looking for someone who specializes in dyscalculia. Would love recommendations. Thanks! #iteachmath
Today may have been the strangest day in my 20+ year career as an educator. #iteachmath
It has such a resemblance to how those little magnets worked in the toys of my youth. Ahh...the nostalgia of 70s road trips!
I don't know the math behind the Argand plane, but your graphs remind me of this.
In this era, a chia seed, though not a fruit, would have been more fruit-forward than a pea.
WAIT A MINUTE...we can do a planet relative size to one another:fetus scale.
I didn't even notice that. Now i can't unsee it. I also think it's funny that 9/10 people's fruit size references were probably the size of your fetus and now we have a planet analogy.
I love visual models. I wish my math and science teachers had used more of them throughout my K-8 years. They stick with me! #iteachmath
And, I already shared with my son's 5th grade teacher and she's going to do something fun with it tomorrow.
๐ Thank you!
@mathequalslove.bsky.social Oh how I've missed your creative teaching (during my very long math social media break). I miss Slope Dude too. And I miss teaching!
I used Speechify to read articles aloud recently when in grad school. I believe it can also save the audio file. It's not free, but I believe you can use a free trial for a while.
These are up in my office at my school. They were originally on the wall in my 8th grade math classroom when I was teaching. medium.com/nevertheless...
I never thought of this as a mental math tool. So cool!
Any chance you can DM me this video clip? I want to share it with my son's teacher to use with her class.
Dinner convo: "Mom, Wrapped came out. I figured out that I spent 2 hours a day on Spotify this year. Someone in my English class spent over 8 hours a day." If you have time to have your class take out their phones and hit the Wrapped button, I'm dying to hear the math convos that happen. #iteachmath
Being a high school admin means that at least once a week I discover student-led amazingness that I didn't know about. Today in advisory I walked into a room with 30-40 students, divided up among 8 languages, giving math help to one another in their native languages. All student-organized!
indeed!
Do you know what caused it? Seems weird after all the rain. I'm out of town, so I didn't know it was bad.
How I spent my Thanksgiving vacation...
Loving carving out time for mathy doodling. Now if I can keep it up when back at work!

Yes! Tis the season!
