A really nice description of Roger Butlin's contribution to speciation biology in JEB by @ruimmfaria.bsky.social and colleagues. Roger is one of the good ones!

MA Elects Fighters to the US Senate. So What Does Seth Moulton Fight For? If you know me, you’ll know by now that I am strongly supporting Senator Ed Markey for re-election for Senate in Massachusetts.

I've been asked recently for something on Why Ed Markey / Why Not Seth Moulton, so I decided to do a stock-taking of Seth Moulton's record.

A. We use the adaptive dynamics framework to make theoretical predictions of evolutionary trajectory under trade-offs between growth parameters. B. We assess these predictions using forward simulations mapping the trajectory of evolution on varying the supply of mutations (mutation rate, supply of trait-increasing mutations (mutation bias), and mutation effect size), and calculate new quantities not available in adaptive dynamics, such as time-dependent fixation rates and the time to reach an Evolutionary Stable Strategy (ESS).

Was at this same intersection last week on my bike and a car ran a red light moments before I pedaled onto this same cross walk. Must be fixed and glad your daughter was spared

Last night, on the corner of Alewife Brook Parkway and Powderhouse Boulevard, my older daughter was struck by a driver.

She was crossing in the crosswalk – with the WALK signal – and the car ran the red light. Miraculously, she was okay and walked away with nothing worse than a bruise.

tl;dr — this EO co-opts the language of open science to implement a system of political control wherein presidential appointees are given broad latitude to designate any number of reasonable scientific activities and inferences as scientific misconduct, and to penalize those involved accordingly.
