A note for my fellow cisgender white ladies after the murder in Minneapolis. No one is safe from fascists, but you're still safer than almost anyone else. Use your privilege to protect others.

I have a new post on The Champlain Society's Findings/Trouvailles Blog. I'm very grateful for excellent feedback from Paul Beck and the editors.
Today’s post, by Aidan Hughes from @uguelphhist.bsky.social, explores the history of women’s bodybuilding.
If I had a child I'd want to name them Judith, but their middle name would have to be AfterJudithButlerNOTMy Grandmother.
Got you!
Today’s post, by John Price, is the first of a two part series exploring Zionism and Palestine through the work of Elizabeth MacCallum.
Fluffy black dog with pointy ears lying on a colourful carpet with a fuzzy round dog bed in the background. The person taking the photo is partially visible, wearing a green T-shirt and round green glasses.
Happy #DogDay to my study buddy.
Any bilingual grad students who would like to make some money in August? I have a 5-page document in need of translation from English to French and my translator is suddenly unavailable.
Stages of moving house:
- Surely this is enough boxes.
- Why do I love someone with such heavy hobbies?
- Where did all the boxes go?
- Dumpster diving.
- Maybe "Rumors" will get me through this.
- Googling "burglars for hire near me" and "radical minimalism."

Previously Kristin Burnett and Shannon Stettner explored the YWCA’s role in Residential Schools and Indian Hospital systems in Canada. They also called for blog series proposal submissions. More information about submissions can be found at the end of the article.

@yourewrongabout.bsky.social delighted to inform you that a tailless but otherwise very dishy coyote was cruising around the cemetery where I walked this morning. He must have overhead me listening to you and Lulu!
I have loved Diego Luna since horrible 2004 masterpiece Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (23% on Rotten Tomatoes) and I'm thrilled my teen self had such excellent taste in this one, highly specific, regard.
Green background, with a white graphic image of a tab open on a computer with black text quoting: “If writing is thinking, it follows that outsourcing writing is outsourcing thinking. And this outsourcing is accelerating at a staggering pace. This should concern us all: as educators, but also as citizens.”Underneath it says “Edward Dunsworth” in black text and has a white Active History.ca logo in the bottom right corner.
In today’s post Edward Dunsworth explores and critiques the use of AI in scholarship, academia, and the classroom.

I bring a real "capitalism is a death cult" energy to business transactions and people don't seem to like it.
@sarawilmshurst.bsky.social PhD student @uguelphhist.bsky.social talks about her volunteer work with @activehist.bsky.social.
Green background, white text quoting: “The absence of a compelling counter-movement, the development of neoliberalism has hollowed out democratic practices and institutions in such a way as to further impede the path to something else and something better, while simultaneously paving the way for neoliberalism to mutate and move in more radical directions.” Underneath it says “Mack Penner” in white text and has a white Active History.ca logo in the bottom right corner.
In today’s post Mack Penner @mackpenner.bsky.social explores the evolution of neoliberalism.

I'm in the airport parking lot and two dudes are making friends while their cars charge. Maybe mass electric vehicle adoption will finally end the male loneliness epidemic.
A Global News screenshot showing a headline that reads "Ontario boat company secures deal for 30-min transit from Toronto to Niagara." The article's author is Prisha Dev.
Tell me how you're different from aaaallll the other supposed "boat companies" who have promised to let me do my best sea captain impression on my way to family dinner. I've been hurt before and it's hard to trust.
In today’s post, @jasonnichols1980.bsky.social explores housing challenges in First Nations communities. Following the 2025 re-election of the Liberal Party, he draws on historical context to offer insights and suggestions for reconciliation and future housing strategies.
Students act like AI will always be available at a low cost and it's just not guaranteed! The tools they are coming to rely on are privately owned, with no pathway to profitability unless they jack up costs once we forget how to write on our own.
Tip from your friendly neighborhood editor: if you can insert "by vampires" after the verb, it's passive voice.
"What can be learned from this experience?" = "What can be learned by vampires from this experience?"
Protect your writing from vampires and use the active voice!
Skarsgård is great! But given Murderbot has no textual race or gender in the books I wish they'd taken the opportunity to cast someone other than a white man.
I have a theory that people who read #Murderbot Diaries think of Murderbot as a femme and people who listened to the audiobooks think of them as masc. Because I was ASTONISHED to see Alexander Skarsgård cast.
My gratitude journal includes the designer at @oxfordacademic.bsky.social who typesets the footnotes in books. I'm sure it's very picky work (hence why most presses use endnotes) but we appreciate the footnotes very much!
