Disabled parrot is undefeated alpha male of his group thanks to novel 'beak jousting' A study reported in Current Biology shows how physical disabilities in the animal world can be overcome through behavioral innovation. The report features an endangered kea parrot in captivity at New ...

Wonderful tale of animal innovation, and food for thought: "if a disabled animal can innovate its way to success, well-intentioned interventions like prosthetics might not always improve their quality of life."

So much to #Unlearn about non-human animals

A quick change of plans this afternoon when news broke of a Woodchat Shrike at Pembrey Burrows. It showed beautifully, perching in the open for prolonged spells. Nice supporting cast of Sedge and Grasshopper Warbler on the walk in. #birdingWales #UKWildlife #birdsSeenIn20206 #rareBirdsUk

Stunning photo of a pair of Red Listed Black-tailed Godwits at Pett Level, as spotted recently by Barry Yates. This shows their black tails beautifully. Black-tailed Godwits form monogamous pairs that last for years.

We're told that we all want to be accepted. If the Alvecote Hooded Merganser does one sharpish, she may have a slim chance 🙏

At Middleton: LS Wood. Garden Warbler, 1st song of the year stops me in my tracks & with a bit of patience I saw him.

Stunning pic!
Black-tailed Godwits pairs don't winter together - they're often in different countries.
Somehow, the male and female manage to synchronise their return to their breeding site.
If one bird is late 'divorce' can occur.

Great sighting.
A flock of Black-tailed Godwits lands on the east coast of Scotland. Migration is paused.

Just fantastic that we now have ospreys regularly breeding in the Usk Valley, not far at all from the Glanusk estate which was the site of Wales’ largest mass-poisoning of birds of prey (and ravens) -a crime that remains mysteriously unsolved… Wildlife crime remains a very live issue in mid-Wales.

To understand why the USA is where it is today, all you need to do is see that Trump cannot tolerate even the mildest, insightful criticism from the Pope, but Trump will allow Putin to humiliate him deeply and constantly, while still craving Putin’s approval.

I was a farm worker employed under the youth opportunity scheme. .... eventually migrating to agricultural wages pay...... I didn't earn much, but I needed the experience before heading to Ag College, so I was grateful for the experience offered farming.
