The spillover of floral fungi across ecological boundaries Which ecological processes assemble diverse floral fungal communities across habitat and host boundaries remains an open question. Three ecological hypotheses that may explain fungal diversity are: (H...

New preprint! We surveyed fungal communities from three floral hosts to see the effects of host identity, plant-pollinator networks and cross-host spillover. Super cool to collaborate with my GGE cohortmate Becca, Em Jochim and Fernanda Valdovinos. Read it here: www.authorea.com/doi/full/10....

I was recently asked to contribute to the "Meet a Scientist" posters at YMCA Camp Dudley Outdoor School in Washington. I grew up attending and volunteering at MESD Outdoor School in Oregon, so I was happy to contribute in this small way to environmental education.

Contribution of Floral Transmission to the Assembly and Health Impact of Bacterial Communities in Watermelon Seeds | Phytobiomes Journal Flower-sourced assembly of seed microbiota remains an understudied ecological process. Here, we investigated the floral transmission pathway for bacterial acquisition by developing seeds of watermelon...

I’m excited to share that one of the projects from my PhD is now published in Phytobiomes Journal! Super proud to have some former undergrad mentees and my collaborators from @emersys-irhs.bsky.social as coauthors. You can see the First Look here: apsjournals.apsnet.org/doi/10.1094/...

Fam, Dr. Houry is on BlueSky. She was the Chief Medical Officer at the CDC before she and several others very publicly resigned in response to the clear and present danger posed by RFK Jr.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend that you follow this extraordinary woman and leader.

Thank you! I think that techniques discussion is so important for studying microbes in plants (or any other question in science). Each approach has its pros and cons depending on what question you want to answer, and IMO, a combination of methods is best for holistic answers

Did u know?Pollinators & wildflowers (weeds)have evolved together over millennia. This natural partnership should be allowed to flourish in our own outside spaces. White Dead Nettle is a perfect example of this, especially as it starts flowering, early in the season, when food can be scarce. 🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍🪲🐝

Toxicologist explains how poison ivy and bee stings are nature’s chemical weapons Poison ivy and bees stings are among the most common outdoor menaces for people enjoying the outdoors.

Plants and animals deploy toxins most often in order to defend themselves. Learning how they do that and what happens when the human body is exposed to these substances can offer insights on how to prevent or manage these encounters with nature. (via @us.theconversation.com)
