The Deeper Uncertainty The uncomfortable truth is: we don't really know if current benchmarks test the full range of skills required for problem-solving, because we don't have a complete theory of what that range is. We operate on intuition, historical lessons about what breaks, and empirical observations of where models fail in deployment. The field is in a pre-theoretic phase—pattern-matching on failures and successes without a deep explanatory framework. This is not unusual for a young science, but it does mean claims about what benchmarks measure should be held with appropriate humility.

You can just feel that Anthropic listens more closely to philosophers than other labs, and has defined epistemic character in a way that places high value on "recognizing areas of ignorance."
