The opportunity of LLMs was to see what kinds of thought-free simulated writing they could generate and use those outputs to judge what's worth our human time. Instead, we're being drowned in bullshit writing. biblioracle.substack.com/p/bullsht-wr...

“The mandates contained in science of reading legislation are not scientific.”
Good piece framing the science of reading movement as a power grab—resonates with what @annieabrams.bsky.social and @jaustinedu.bsky.social talked about on @haveyouheard.bsky.social

"Mandating some literacy instruction approaches and outlawing others is not about science, quality, or equity: It’s about tightening state control over which education companies are awarded contracts and which test outcomes matter." — Dr. Rachel Gabriel
Honestly this is my dream, but as somebody with chronic impostor syndrome I still can't quite believe it. AUTOMATIC NOODLE is a finalist for the Hugo, the Locus, and the Nebula awards. Thank you so much to everyone who voted. I am flustered but very happy!!
2026 AERA Distinguished Lecturer Bryan Brayboy discusses the future of schooling.
What’s the best book/article/essay people have read about teaching writing? Am working on something and I’m curious what others have read that have shaped the way they think about their work—can be practical, theoretical, even only tangentially related to pedagogy.
The specifics of this example aside, I find these articles are often written in a way that seeks to discredit the work of anyone working inside of education so to make educators even more subject to the views of those on the outside. The message is that no educator can be trusted with their own work
Currently listening to Senators Smith and Klobuchar go to bat for the Boundary Waters. I appreciate their late night effort, but am near tears as I listen to them talk about its importance and the major threat against it.
Hasn't our state suffered enough?

Check out this amazing article by doctoral candidate Tempestt Johnson about the literacy practices of majorette dancers in marching bands! See how majorette dance is disciplinary literacy and liberation. In ILA's Literacy Today magazine this month. #literacies @ilatoday.bsky.social
Sal Khan is spinning up an alternative post-secondary credential in concert with the largest tech companies in the world. Anyone who cares about human-centered education should wish it nothing but failure. Thankfully, Khan has practice at that. www.insidehighered.com/opinion/colu...

Considering how children are feeling in these trying times, gather a bunch of picture books they like, including some humorous ones, and read them together. READ. READ. READ. nancyebailey.com/2015/11/16/t...
I'm happy to share that our gaming book is finally out. Working with a team of novice researchers to put this together has been a highlight of my career.

When @danhf.bsky.social shared with me his idea for a special issue on The Dark Fantastic, I was surprised, honored & (truly) shy about it all.
My dear colleagues @srtoliver.bsky.social & @autumnadia.bsky.social have curated an incredible issue here. Grateful to SR, Autumn, Dan, Gerry & SFFTV! 🖤✨🎬
There's a book of my Goldsmiths Children's Literature MA lectures called 'Adventures in Wonderland' edited by John Richmond. There are some copies in the Owl Bookshop, Kentish Town or The Word Bookshop, New Cross and also online.

Red Graphic showing a 38% decrease in Ohio State international student enrollment versus a 3% increase in Michigan, criticizing SB 1's impact on Ohio.
Is Ohio really better than ❌ichigan? Not with SB 1, the Higher Education Destruction Act, in play.
We are falling behind, and the culprit is SB1. This outrageous law is actively driving prospective local, out-of-state, and international students outside of Ohio.

So proud of this. Anna’s been gone 2ish years and I still can’t hardly believe it most weeks, but we made this with our brilliant author-friends, and it is good.
We wanted to title it: Wicked Writing but were told the SEO want great.
Great gift for secondary writing teachers.
Headed to #NCTE2025? This doc has the sessions related to censorship! The bolded sessions feature members from @ncte.org's Committee Against Censorship.
The book banners are on the wrong side of history, but we need community, solidarity, and strategy to make that happen. Join us in the work.

Happy to share this new #literacies piece with @sarahejerasa.bsky.social comparing ways that content is suggested and circulated across platforms like TikTok and Webtoon. It was fun to think with frameworks of sponsorship and to talk about webcomics, which I love!
Mark your calendars for Tuesday's #literacies chat with @karismjones.bsky.social and @scottstorm.bsky.social. Let's talk fandoms!
