At #NCTE2025 in a fabulous session: "Preparing Preservice Teachers to Advocate Boldly for the Right to Read." Shout out for one of the articles I'm most proud to have out in the world.
So many teacher educators doing so much good to prepare future teachers to meet the challenges of this moment.
Today's guests argue that the narratives & themes of English class are everywhere for those equipped to see them. 👇

#NCTE2025 is where book signings are more than just a meet-and-greet; they are moments that matter for writers and teachers.
#TCTELA VP Douglas Frank had a chance to experience just that in this moment with author Scott Snyder.
Past meets present with this joyful moment of #TCTELA Past President Valerie Taylor running into President @eva-goins.bsky.social, President-Elect @markeshatisby.bsky.social, and VP of Membership and Affiliates @dougfrank.bsky.social. #NCTE2025
Look at so many amazing people doing the work of advocating against censorship.

"I have a master's degree. I've taught for two decades. I am expected to take a bullet for a child. Surely I can make an appropriate decision about what a child should know and think about and read in my class more appropriately than just about anyone else" (985). Participants have been • Called names, like "groomer and pedophile" (788), "criminal and pornographer" (595). Surveilled through "monthly calls and emails of parents" (953), "students taking pictures of their classroom libraries" (384), and "anonymous complaints (...) presumably from people whose children aren't even in [their) class" (232). "Effectively muzzled" (1779), "placed under investigation" (105), "reprimanded" (2980), issued "warnings and lower evaluations" (773), "threatened with dismissal" or "felony charges" (64), "non-renewed" (574), and "quietly fired" (1205).
