I didn’t even know such a thing existed! Great work.

Small butterfly, perched head down on a honeysuckle twig, in the sun. We are seeing the underside of its wings. Wings are overall warm brown with a flush of bright ochre visible on the forewing. There are a few white rings, and random white “frosting.”
Apparently I just missed #butterflyweek, but I spotted this Harvester only yesterday. Its caterpillar stage feeds on woolly aphids instead of foliage. These are briefly common in spring. Leavenworth, Kansas, USA. #bugsky #insects #butterflies
I am so happy for you! I can’t imagine not being able to hike at will. Sending continued healing energy.
Sunset over a wetland, through smoke from distant rangeland seasonal burns.
Smoky sunset over Baker Wetlands in Lawrence, Kansas, USA this evening. We were looking for King Rail birds that have been heard there recently. We heard maybe two, but, like everyone else, didn’t see them.
You can do it right now, state by state. See @robertreich for his posts about this strategy.

That’s not just moving the goalposts, it’s admitting the original argument was marketing, not conviction.
When reality fails, they don’t reconsider the choice.
They change the reason so they can still “win.”
It’s not politics anymore.

So close and yet so far (I live in Leavenworth, KS). Good luck! Last year I did the Heartland Book Festival in KC, MO. I recommend it.
Remind me which ones are the criminals again?
Beautiful!
Moth with triangular shape, head up, on a wooden fence at night. Color of moth is pale gray with black patches, and black crescents near wingtips.
Quite blustery tonight, but warm and humid, so turned on the light by our garage. This Baltimore Snout, Hypena baltimoralis, was one of the few visitors. Leavenworth, Kansas, USA. #bugsky #moths #mothing #insects
I’m soliciting ideas for increasing revenue from my Blogger blogs, beyond Google Adsense. I have a strong following for one, and a deep archive, so not interested in switching platforms. Thank you. #writingcommunity #writerscommunity #blogging
Delightful! I did think it was a Fox Sparrow, though. 😁
An interesting springtime parasite and its host.... bugeric.blogspot.com/2026/04/the-... #bugwatching #bugsky #insects #bees
Another wonderful talent to follow. Highly diverse subject matter.
The money is out there for this to be the norm. The *will* is not, because patriarchy. We, as fans, need a strategy to change that.
Moth on inside latch of screen door. Moth has broad, triangular wings with broad, transverse bands of gray and brown-ochre.
Doing chores can have its rewards. Taking out the trash just now, I found this Barberry Geometer moth on the inside latch of our screen door. Leavenworth, Kansas, USA. #bugsky #moths #mothing #insects
Magnificent. You may not know how much you are doing for your followers by sharing your work right now.
I came here to say the same thing. Thank you, Phina. Following you now.
Ok, Kansas City, bad night to test the emergency alert system!
Right?!
A male Luna Moth, green with broad wings, hind wings with long tails, hanging from a small branch. Selfie view with two people, sparse tree canopy, and blue sky in background.
Luna Moth selfie! This male was hanging from a branch of invasive honeysuckle close to the forest floor. Leavenworth, Kansas, USA, April 6, 2026. #bugsky #moths #mothing
Jack-in-the-Pulpit flower in bloom. Tall, green, cylindrical, with hood over central stalk in throat of flower. Background shows sunlit forest floor.
Heidi spotted this freshly bloomed Jack-in-the-Pulpit flower on the forest floor in a ravine on the VA Trails here in Leavenworth, Kansas, USA today. #bloomscrolling #wildflowers #spring
Two trout lily flowers, faded red withered, surrounded by the beautiful green leaves that are lightly mottled with purple, growing from the forest floor.
So bummed that we already missed the bloom of trout lilies (aka fawn lilies) in one of our favorite hiking spots here in Leavenworth, Kansas, USA, today. The leaves are still wonderful, though. #bloomscrolling #wildflowers #spring
Well, this got me to follow you, so there’s that. Also, thank you for your service. ❤️
I thought the first rule of flight club was “don’t talk about….” Oops, never mind.

You are so welcome!
Here’s why I was suspicious: my publisher wasn’t copied on the email; the person who sent the email was not listed under “staff” on the organization’s website. I forwarded the email to the website email and they confirmed the scam.
Book, titled Insectpedia: A Brief Compendium of Insect Lore, with a mason wasp pictured.
Earlier this week I received an email from someone purporting to represent the Edinburgh (Scotland) International Book Festival, a real event, inviting me as a guest panelist. It was a phishing scam. Authors and writers are the biggest targets for scams, I swear. #writingcommunity #booksky
