consumerism unfortunately won and i bought some bug water bc cute and i will definitely reuse these
(answer: they get upgrades as they get bigger, but they actually prefer small spaces to chill in and they rarely do much else. jumping spiders need lots of space comparatively)
was talking to my wife’s mom about my tarantulas on facetime and she asked something like ‘do they ever get upset living in those small plastic containers?’ meanwhile on camera my #tarantula sling was doing a lil happy dance after eating a cricket
i love her eyes they are so 0oo0

flat fuck 😔😔😔
i imagine the obvious answer is to blend in with green stems in the wild but it’s so silly to see irl
green baby mantis resting on my hand a and stretching her limbs to appear flat
question for #invertefest
why do she go flat (giant asian mantis)
orange phiddipus regius female (back view). she is sipping honey

the same dark phase regal spider that’s in my profile banner did a complete 180 and molted into a bright orange adult. you never know what they will look like in when they mature 🧡🖤 #invertefest #jumpingspider

A photo of the head and raptorial arms of a brown and bronze mantidfly. The mantifly's large globular eyes are a bronze metallic, its triangular face pale tan almost yellow, it's powerful mantid-like raptorial arms are a rich brown color.
A photo of the mantid fly from the upper side as it eats what I believe is a bug. The mantidfly grasps its dark colored prey in its raptorial arms as it eats it. visible here is the long tube like thorax from which the lacy net-like wings extend backward over the brown and orange colored curved abdomen
A photo of the mantidfly's dorsal surface, showing the lacy net-ike wings covering the abdomen, the long tube-like thorax and the head and raptorial arms.
a photo of the mantidfly's side sowing the raptorial arms in greater detail, tucked up close to the mantidfly's thorax and the lacy wings.
Happy #invertefest #Friday from my first #mantidfly of the season, the Four-spotted Mandtidfly, #Dicromantispa interrupta.

Hand embroidery of a salt marsh moth, with white forewings with black speckles and bright yellow hindwings. The moth is stitched with a 3d stumpwork effect, giving it the appearance of coming of the surface of the fabric. It is mounted in a round wooden frame.
I love stitching insects and displaying them on my walls (faux taxidermy style). Nature is my vibe and I'm slowly making my craft space looks as much like a forest as I can 😁
I'm trying to think of the next insect to stitch. What would you pick?

Two valley carpenter bees side by side, the one on the left is colored like a typical male with orange fuzz and green eyes, and the female on the right colored so black that it is hard to distinguish any features. Speech bubble from the left bee reads, "Hi, I'm Sunny B and this is my wife, VOID"

woolly bear that has pupated into a full grown tiger moth. it is entirely orange in color and has black spots down its abdomen and speckled on its wings.
the iconic woolly bear. fuzzy and blackish brown with a thick brownish orange stripe across its midsection.
the most iconic woolly bear looks like this FYI. they are named the ‘isabella tiger moth’.
agreeable tiger moth larva. it has more thick black stripes than the average woolly bear. the orange stripes are thinner, and the black stripes have large bristles.
pic of agreeable tiger moth on google search
From Google: Why is it called an agreeable tiger moth? Tiger moth caterpillars are bristly (woolly bears are tiger moths, too), and in some species, the hairs cause skin irritation. The Agreeable tiger moth’s bristles are, well, agreeable.
this one is specifically an ‘agreeable tiger moth’. i found them yesterday at my local park. it’s been so cold out that when i found them they weren’t moving.. i’m keeping them inside for a day or so until it gets a bit warmer out.
i’m sure u have all heard of woolly bears, but have u ever seen its final form? #invertefest 🐛
my chinese mantis ‘honey’ doing a threat pose
‘tiramisu’, my female phiddipus regius. she is tan with blue ish fangs.
‘puppy’ the cecropia moth. in this photo she has laid eggs on my hand 🥲 but she was so soft and cute so i don’t care
general picture of my bug shelves. mostly acrylic tarantula crib enclosures and primarily spiders inside them.
my fave thing is taking photos and trying to find matches using reverse image searching :3 i get to learn about things i usually don’t notice.
i prob am going to sound under educated in some areas. i do this as a hobby primarily with moths/mantids/spiders
