A tan colored mantidfly resting on the shiny black surface of a lamp pole. The mantifly's mantid-like raptorial arms (which give these flies their name) are dark rusty brown and held underneath its small triangular head which has large bronze metallic eyes. The thorax descends tube-like behind the head to a boxy rear part from which the rear pair of legs emerge. Long lcy transparent wings extend back covering the curved abdomen.
A photo of the mantidfly's head and raptorial arms as it snacks on a twig ant.
Another photo of the mantidfly from the side as it snacked on the twig ant.
It is time for a #Mantidfly thread because last night I had 6 at the light at the same time! ๐ป. First up, the Four-spotted Mantidfly, #Dicromantispa interrupta (Seen feeding on a twig ant.)
