Surging demand for construction sand threatens Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake.
Research shows Mekong sand mining has deepened channels and halved wet-season flows into Cambodia’s Tonle Sap, the river’s “heartbeat,” underscoring urgent calls for coordinated basin governance.

This is the second time I have photographed one of my favorite Mycena species - this one is found on leaves and has regular water droplets along the stem for a reason which remains a mystery to me.

“I’ve been amazed by the groundswell of grassroots, bipartisan opposition to this....everyone is affected by this, the opposition has been across the political spectrum. A lot of people don’t see the benefits coming from AI and feel they will be paying for it"
Scientists at @climate.columbia.edu say regenerated ecosystems, designed to regrow foliage and absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, create fewer climate benefits than previously thought.
📢 WE'RE GOING TO RE-POST our 'Inequality Graph of the Week' series from 'The Spirit Level at 15 dataset', one graph a day (give or take...), up until Christmas. Please share widely and help us spread the word that more equal societies are fairer, greener, and better for everyone. Thank You! 👍♥️✊
Ahead of COP 30 I’ve been thinking about the irony that the critics of our 1.5 IPCC report are many of the people now saying it’s too late to act because we’ve going past 1.5 & we must focus on instead on technological fixes to address overshoot - here’s why I think these arguments are distractions
It's just been confirmed that Monash University is dropping Woodside as a partner because they don't align with their sustainable values. This is an incredible win for @stopwoodsidemonash.bsky.social who have run a dedicated grass roots campaign for years.
Is that good
A climate protestor was charged in WA with public nuisance for playing the violin too loudly outside the Woodside office.
the neutral users saw twice as much right-wing content as left-wing content
This @skynewsrss.bsky.social analysis confirms that X's algorithm is blatantly boosting far-right content

Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Let me excerpt the concluding paragraph:
📣 Today we have updated our summary of net zero targets across 40+ of the world's largest emitters. What do we see?
🛑 Ten years after the adoption of the Paris Agreement, the design of most net zero targets remains inadequate.

I discussed how climate change supercharged Hurricane #Melissa + Bill Gates latest climate comments with Chris Jansing on @msnbc.com: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQ5O...
A Category 5 hurricane slams into Jamaica as climate change fuels stronger storms, and as environmental advocates call for fossil fuel companies to pay for damages.
"The warm waters that fueled its intensification were 500 to 700 times more likely as a result of climate change."
Hurricane Melissa is being supercharged by abnormally warm ocean temperatures.
This is not normal. This is what a climate crisis looks like.
Not since 1935 has anyone experienced a storm like Melissa. Melissa's record wouldn't have happened without climate change, which made the hurricane's winds about 10 mph stronger, according to a rapid attribution analysis by Climate Central. yaleclimateconnections.org/2025/10/cata...
To quote my friend @drkatemarvel.bsky.social, climate change won't make humanity extinct but we can do better than "not extinct". Raise your standards people!
Yes, solutions for nature are also solutions for health!
This new analysis finds urban greening is "associated with a wide range of positive health outcomes including improved physical and mental health, increased physical activity, improved childhood development, and reduced exposure to harms."
Learned a ton fr this mindblowing episode❗

For a pilot study in 2022, scientists fitted 5 Australian magpies with tiny trackers that could only be removed with a magnet or scissors. Within 10 minutes, a female had successfully removed the tracker from a younger bird, and 3 days later, all of them had been removed.

"Indigenous language revitalization is climate change solution."
A glorious possibility. And we have also to deal with oligarch nihilism for our planet and for all of the Peoples. Begin by disbelieving them.
