A dark black-brown flower scarab beetle with neon-bright green pattern on it's back, sides and belly, sitting on my hand. These guys are about 1.5 cm long.

Today I was moving things from my plant propagation area in preparation for putting up my shadecloth frame. Turned around to see this gorgeous, bright flower scarab Eupoecila australasiae, (fiddler beetle), had crash landed in a water bucket. Pics don't do justice to the searing neon green!

Perched on a weathered branch, a small bird exudes elegance with its muted yet captivating colors. Its olive-green back transitions seamlessly to soft gray feathers on its underside, while a subtle buff tone graces its throat. A sharp, sturdy beak hints at its resilience, and its dark, focused eye reflects the vibrant greens of its tropical surroundings. The blurred background of lush foliage enhances the bird’s earthy tones, creating a harmonious blend of nature’s palette. Its poised stance and delicate details make for a serene and striking portrait of life in the wild.

A very common Costa Rican bird, the Buff-throated Saltator are widespread throughout the country. They love open areas adjacent to forest and they're in my garden at @casabentbill.bsky.social year-round.

An Imperial Hairstreak (Arcas imperialis) in Peru.

Good morning! Our logo is in honour of the Green Hairstreak #butterfly (Callophrys rubi). Outside of Europe there is this stunning 'equivalent' - the Imperial Hairstreak (Arcas imperialis). It was seen yesterday by our group touring Peru & a highlight of another butterfly-filled day.

There's just something about green butterflies that stops me in my tracks every time!

Good morning Bluey!

This shot combines two of my interests - butterflies & botany. It’s one reason the company I started @greenwingstours.bsky.social also focuses strongly on both.

It’s a Green Hairstreak (Callophrys rubi) nectaring on a Cistus creticus flower, in Rhodes, Greece.

Here's a lovely blue weevil. It's body is covered in tiny scales, which I drew individually (for ages)

Common brimstone butterfly with folded pale green wings resting on some green leaves. The colour and shape of the wings, along with strong veining mean the butterfly is camoflauged amongst the leaves. Some blue sky can be seen in the background.

A lovely visitor to the garden, Brimstone butterfly (Gonepteryx rhamni, family Pieridae), doing frankly an amazing job looking like a leaf!
The yellow-green underwing means this is likely a male (females have a pale green/white colour), although I'm not certain of this 🧪

Brevirostruavis has clawed wings, short legs, a short snout, and here is seen with a long tongue sticking out to lick up pollen, nectar, and small insects on some very early small white flowers in a sea of green leaves on the forest floor.

Brevirostruavis macrohyoideus illustration. This Enantiornithine bird is characterized by a large hyoid structure on its head. Woodpeckers & hummingbirds have similar structures which serve as anchors for a long tongue - here speculatively used to feed on nectar & small insects in early flowers 🎨🐡🦉🧪

Hey everyone! For my first post on this platform, check out this iridescent blue and green longlegged fly (Dolichopodidae) feeding on a smaller fly. If you don't like critter pics, including some really weird and gross stuff, then I might not be one to follow 😂
