There are specific wordcount expectations that vary depending on your manuscript's age group and genre.
It is better to be the *rule* rather than the *exception* here. I'll explain why:

There are so many ways to structure a story — save the cat; Freitag graph; Hero's journey. On and on.

If a scene doesn't end with a hook, make sure it ends with a bang by delivering the most powerful LINE OF DIALOGUE or VISUAL of the entire scene instead. #scriptsky
Sudden realization, em-dash versus brackets. Brackets feel more textual. Em-dashes, like commas, are oral & aural; they tell you how to read it aloud, and how to hear it in your head. And that's why I use 'em so much in fiction: storytelling. (And why I defend most of my commas.) #writing #editing
