Resident tissue #macrophages (RTM) are now recognized as integral regulators of tissue physiology, not transient immune sentinels. one fundamental question remains unresolved: why do some populations achieve lifelong self-maintenance, while others are replaced under steady-state conditions? 🧵1/11

Not only my photos are being stolen now, people are selling them under someone else's name😡😡. I intentionally never sold my images for profit. Check the photos below. Mine is in the left, the stolen one in the right. Does someone knows how to sue them?

Microglia-Derived Extracellular Vesicles Enhance Oligodendrocyte Maturation by Transcriptionally Regulating Mitochondrial Molecular Pathways - Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology Degeneration of myelinating oligodendrocytes and the resulting breakdown of the myelin sheath are key drivers of neurodegeneration and disability across numerous central nervous system pathologies. Thus, a compelling strategy to preserve neuronal function is to promote endogenous myelin repair by oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs). Extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted by pro-regenerative microglia have been shown to enhance OPC maturation and remyelination across different experimental m...

Figure 4 - CSF1 and IL34 protein increase throughout development and display distinct spatiotemporal transcriptional expression patterns; panel L. Density maps depicting the spatiotemporal expression patterns of Il34 (top) and Csf1 (bottom) transcripts in RNAscope™ across development. Left to right: P3, P10, P30. Warmer colours indicate greater while cooler colours indicate lower transcript density.

Just presented my work. Now I’m off to my cave to finish writing. Yup, PhD is just a few BIG steps closer. Until then, I’ll keep chugging my matcha to keep me awake, and buying plants to distract me from failed experiments. 😆

Huge thanks to people who support me everyday: to my real friends in this field who always move with pure intentions, to my friends outside the lab, to my second mother, and most especially, to my loving husband and his family who always believe in me. (3/n)

It’s always my pleasure to share the science I do, and I am beyond grateful for these opportunities. It’s very humbling. The world is full of envy and people who are unhappy to see our successes, but we strive to move forward and to redirect ourselves to better places. (2/n)

In 2018, I presented my Bachelors thesis at the biggest Microbiology conference in the Philippines and won the best presentation award. In 2021, I also got a presentation award for my Masters thesis in Taiwan. Last week, I presented my PhD work to the European Macrophage and DC Society in UK. (1/n)

NIH announces end to funding for animal-only studies - Drug Discovery and Development Drug Discovery and Development covers strategies and technologies related to pharmaceutical research and development and drug formulation.

If NIH shuts down funding of animal-only grants, get ready for a whole lot of grants to include some pointless organoid experiments just to qualify. What a terrible rule!

It just feels surreal that after crossing the horizons to search for greener pastures, I ended up in the happiest place on Earth and found the love of my life: my strength in times of darkness, my biggest supporter when I felt like losing some grip. I’m lucky.

Hi! I’m Ae. I like studying macrophages & microglia. I like being alone in the dark microscope room, playing with flow cytometers, & challenging myself with bioinformatics. I also have many passion outside the lab: I love to cook, take care of plants, sing, & see new places! Nice to meet you here! 🥰
