i thought Iโd suggest something too after thinking a bit. Make SME 4 optional so that those who want the feedback on revisions can receive it. And those that want to go straight to the final submit can do that also. This way the workload would be lighter than having it be mandatory #209townhall

Having something due before the final draft is ideal just to get my bearings and actually have something to work towards before the final. I need structure and time to finish this project. Also will SME 4 be changed for sure? I was planning on filming/working on it tdy but not sure now #209townhall
If we kept SME 4 and extended the deadline (option 2) would we still get your feedback like we did for the previous SMEs? I found those really helpful. And even if its only feedback for the visuals I wouldn't mind meeting with you for feedback on revised audio. #209townhall
I think SME 4's workload is a little demanding given a week for the deadline. I really want to heavily revise SME 2 and SME 3 going into the Final project, but since SME 4 requires revisions it feels like i'll end up revising twice.

Nothing in my project surprises me. Honestly there have been moments I have held back. Purposely steering GPT or myself away from a topic I do not want to do. I think I should invite this uncomfortable feeling. Even if its hard for myself it might be a first step for something big #hwa7 #listening
The 3rd voice is something that begins to speak only after the first 2 have spoken. Its created from the interaction between the audio and visual aspects of the media. Something the viewer can interpret on their own without it explicitly being shown to them #hwa7 #thirdvoice
Patty says to break any norms that have been created. Create something that purposely opposes it. Challenge the status quo. I think for SME 4 I want to apply this by creating more chaotic visuals. Simplicity is a norm thats hard to break #hwa7 #surrealism
Patty is the only member in the film crew. Working on a project like that solo allows 100% of the creative direction up to you. You can work on it whenever you feel that creative urge. I think going forward whenever I feel that creative sense I will put it towards a project #hwa7 #budgetconstraints
After hearing Pattys explanation the fish tank is an amazing prop. Viewers see the tank from an outside POV with the items sinking. We see it all at once. Its like looking down on a city from a plane. Seeing it all at once helps us understand the big picture #hwa7 #propsarenotjustprops
Im in that group where its my first time making something like this. Ive spent a lot of time consuming media, analyzing it, and understanding why it was made. I understand the symbolism and sentiment behind the media I consume, but creating it is a whole different challenge #hwa7 #interviewwithpatty
"Painted dreams is a doc about fiction". Thats really good way to describe those sort of fictional but nonfiction docs that we viewed earlier in the sem. It was hard to categorize them but this phrasing really helped it click #hwa7 #interviewwithpatty
Is alienation effect like when a show breaks the fourth wall? #hwa7 #interviewwithpatty
I find it really hard to be inspired by objects. Finding a prop for SME 3 was difficult. Everyday objects are hard to be inspired by because we see them everyday. Its much better to go out to a thrift store like Patty said and get inspired rather than look for inspiration #hwa7 #interviewwithpatty
This was when Patty said that the amateur style was part of the critique of soap operas
I forgot to include screen shots ๐คฆโโ๏ธ. This was the question discussing the budget and props used for the film
Like there are some things that require background knowledge to understand. How do we cater to viewers that do not have that background knowledge without making our media extremely bland and 1 dimensional? I want my point to be conveyed thoroughly, but still hold depth #hwa7 #interviewwithpatty
The emoji balloons were easier to understand than the fish tanks when I was watching Painted Dreams. Thats because I didnt understand the domestic setting of soap operas. How can we ensure the viewer understands the meaning of our symbols without explicitly saying it? #hwa7 #interviewwithpatty
I like how Patty's vision was to critique soap operas and the fact that the budget reflects that. Patty didn't view the small budget as a constraint, rather a unique advantage that could amplify the message. Our obstacles are not always disadvantages #hwa7 #interviewwithpatty
"If you really want to do it you will make time for it". Its hard to find time to do things that we really want to do. For the past semester its been my main focus to make time for the things that I want to do and living by this quote really helped me understand priorities #hwa7 #interviewwithpatty
I like seeing dirty, almost scrappy movies without any fancy effects that tell a clear message. A film maker I believe does this well is Casey Neistat who focuses on that scrappy style as a part of his creative vision. It just shows that anyone can create something #hwa7 #interviewwithpatty
One thing I really liked about Painted Dreams was that it looked like a home movie. The props were toys, the actors seemed to be friends of Patty's and the set design was at home. Im glad that it was pointed out in the interview as media creation shouldn't be price gated #hwa7 #interviewwithpatty
The balloons progressed throughout the season to takeover the positions that a human would normally be used in. I like this idea that a symbol progresses and develops as the video goes on. The change itself further builds on the definition of the symbol. #painteddreams
If sports and soap operas are emotionally adjacent then what media isnt? Most if not all media invokes some form of emotional reaction but we all have a reason to watch them. Its not as simple as "because it is what was on". We choose to watch these medias BECAUSE they bring emotion #painteddreams
The emoji balloons are used tastefully especially when overlayed with another shot. It acts as a third form of information in combination with audio and visual. It shows inner emotion, different than the emotion showed through facial expressions. It helps inform the viewer even more #painteddreams
This entire sequence is really well done. Patty wants to emphasize the importance of faces as a visual source of information. Throughout this sequence Patty was dancing with a neutral face. Only when the emoji balloon covers Patty's face we feel emotion in this scene #painteddreams
Dialogue is the meat and potatoes, but the faces are equally important. I relistened to the acted out snippet, but with my eyes closed and without the faces it feels artificial. The pauses feel unnatural. Its like SME 2 and 3 and how both audio and visual aspects build on each other #painteddreams
Im not too sure what I should be thinking right now. So far Ive really resonated with the way each shot is taken and edited. It seems connected to a lot of the other wacky media from this course. But i cant quite tell WHAT is being said, i can only tell how it is said #painteddreams
I really like the slight motion in each shot no matter how minimal it is. For example the fidget spinners or the water rippling in the tank. These are intentional to show motion. Still shots are used intentionally, otherwise everything has to be a video. #painteddreams
