🚨 #Rosebank is right next to a marine protected area. It poses a disastrous threat to our ocean & climate if it goes ahead. But we can still stop it!

Oceana welcomes Denmark’s 🇩🇰 new bottom trawl closures in its marine waters and #MPAs, a strong step to protect ocean life🪸!
With 19% of its waters trawl-free, Denmark sets an example for the EU to build political consensus to tackle #BottomTrawling beyond protected areas.
Enough of you asked me about this that I wrote some brief thoughts on Ocean Ramsey's particular brand of pseudoscientific nonsense. I believe this addresses almost all of the frequently asked questions I receive, but as always I am happy to answer serious questions asked in good faith.

Why did I do this?
The short answer? Everyone is saying “someone should do something,” and I am someone.
This is brilliant! 👏
Exactly what we need -
the facts, explained simply, for everyone to understand…..
Vaccines are rigorously tested, effective, and save lives. More than 150 million lives have been saved in the past 50 years thanks to vaccines!
But you may be worried about what's in them.
So, let’s break it down. ⬇

Atlantic cod in the North Sea
🚨 Over HALF of UK #fishing catch limits have been set too high to be sustainable, AGAIN. Cod can now be overfished across all our waters & North Sea mackerel could also be put at grave risk. Our #ocean can’t take this. Govt MUST listen. Follow us to fight back! uk.oceana.org/reports/call...
When has taxing the rich ever worked?
If you agree this is WRONG, sign the petition to Environment Secretary Steve Reed, calling for a ban on supertrawlers in marine protected areas: act.gp/3QV1RWK
6 supertrawlers collectively spent nearly 37,000 hours (or 4.2 years) fishing in 44 of UK’s offshore Marine Protected Areas
Trawlers have damaged marine habitats and fish populations, despite the UK govt having the powers to stop them

Dear US colleagues,
In response to the Trump administration, my university @univ-amu.fr is setting up a new program dedicated to welcoming American scientists wishing to pursue their work in France.
There are several M$ in the budget.

Today the Royal Society will meet to discuss “Fellows’ behaviour”. Without doubt the fellow they will primarily be discussing is Elon Musk.
The behaviour may range from his public dissemination of unfounded conspiracy theories to his attacks on the science

I’m not necessarily saying humans are too dumb to be worthy of our spot at the top of the food chain but I will say that if there were 100 gorillas and one gorilla took 55% of all the bananas the other gorillas would beat that gorilla to death with their bare hands.
The Trump administration’s attacks on scientific funding, restrictions on Federal scientist activities, and indiscriminate firing have caused chaos, panic, and harm. We need *specific* examples of harms caused by these policies to include in an open letter. Grants cut, projects cancelled, jobs lost. Feel free to send news stories, blog posts, or social media posts that mention these, as well as original contributions. Please send to WhySharksMatter @ gmail or DM me
