As a ‘book scientist’ I work with microscopes, imaging technologies and AI to preserve ancient texts Book science helps decipher and preserve fragile manuscripts, at a moment when climate change and mass digitization are reshaping cultural heritage work.

Fascinating work. "Combined with high quality imaging, these systems can dramatically reduce barriers to reading, teaching and sharing cultural heritage." #DigitalHumanities #archives #AI

UNC Charlotte poised to launch UNC System’s first AI and humanities program What has been the focus of the program's pending approval for weeks is: how does AI fall under a department such as the College of Humanities and Earth and Social

"We're not training students to build AI systems or code extensively. That's the role of computer science. Instead, we're preparing students to think critically and responsibly about how AI is used in society." #Humanities #AI #ArtificialIntelligence

Anthropic cofounder says studying the humanities will be 'more important than ever' and reveals what the AI company looks for when hiring | Fortune "The things that make us human will become much more important instead of much less important."

“I actually think studying the humanities is going to be more important than ever... And I think the ability to have critical thinking skills and learn how to interact with other people will be more important in the future, rather than less.”

Harvard Law Paid $27 for a Copy of Magna Carta. Surprise! It’s an Original.

#DigitalHumanities FTW! "... were able to confirm the manuscript’s authenticity after Harvard Law School photographed it under ultraviolet light and then subjected it to various levels of spectral imaging, a technique which can enhance aspects of historical documents undetectable to the human eye."

I've ordered records remotely from the National Archives part of the St. Louis facility too, from NARA Atlanta, GA, and I regularly order records from NARA Kansas City, MO.

I've done in-person research at 3 NARA facilities (or 4 depending how we count): NARA Pacific Region in Laguna Niguel, CA, and then later when it moved to Perris, CA and became NARA Riverside. Also at Archives II in College Park, MD and NPRC in St. Louis, MO.

Medieval Tales of Merlin and Arthur, Hidden for Centuries, Return to Light Cambridge University researchers found a manuscript with rare Arthurian tales bound into a ledger more than 400 years old and used advanced technology to reveal its contents.

“This project is fabulous primarily for its use of new technology to recover the material culture of the past, which may survive physically but remain inaccessible for a variety of reasons.” #archives #digitalhumanities #dh

Been thinking about what I can do in light of what is happening in the US. Probably not a lot.
However maybe some infrastructure to alert about ICE & Immigration raids on Bluesky might be of use?

So here is the 1st iteration of the "Ice Raid Alert Feed"
(How it currently works in next post)

Keto egg drop soup (healthy, easy, flavorful, no cornstarch) The best Keto Egg Drop Soup with the most flavorful Chinese chicken bone broth made from scratch with fluffy egg ribbons and ready in minutes!

I made this for dinner tonight on this chilly drizzly So Cal evening. It's one of our favorite soups and so easy to make, by one of my favorite #keto and #carnivore food bloggers. I get 4 servings out of this instead of the 6 claimed in the recipe. #recipes

It was very good for me for a long time, and for my dad after he nearly died from a massive heart attack. But when I nearly died from not-yet-diagnosed T1D in 2014, WW no longer worked for me. But it had taught me how to measure & weight food, read ingredients on the labels, and do portion control.
