In High-Performing Math Classrooms, Words Matter Research shows math vocabulary is linked to stronger academic achievement when paired with expert teaching practices.

When it comes to improving math outcomes, using precise math vocabulary in the classroom isn’t a silver bullet.

But a 2025 study shows using more specific math terms (like subtraction instead of takeaway) is linked to stronger academic achievement when paired with expert teaching practices.

Big picture, I feel that too often topics are taught in vacuums. There are very few truly "new" topics, everything is an extension/ twist of what has been done... and we rarely connect those dots. This leads to memorization vs understanding.

My understanding is that the pictured ones are all official IM partners because they pay IM & any changes they make are "approved" by IM.

ADM is inspired by & based on IM, but doesn't pay nor get their changes approved by IM. Being built on the desmos platform also gives flexibility for digital.

#ITeachMath I see the #elemmathchat has moved here & seems to have regular chats now. Anyone/ #MTBOS know if #msmathchat or #hsmathchat exist?

What are all of the semi regular #mathchats on here? I miss my math community!

Two straight lines, one with two angles at a point, the other with three.
Underneath are two empty bar models with 180° written in the top bar of each.

I used another #BlankIsBest slide this week to introduce angles on the straight line.

The bar model underneath each diagram really helped some of my Y7's make sense of the problems I made up.

Today's abysmal jobs report is a reminder that tax cuts for corporations and the rich don’t create jobs or grow the economy.

What's required is investment in working people — and better wages.

When workers have money to spend, the economy grows and businesses create more jobs.

Remember this.

Joanne on @zackpolanski.bsky.social: "he's like the neurodivergent person at the meeting, going 'I'm going to say the thing that everyone else is avoiding saying, because I don't know why they're avoiding saying it, because it's actually the point that they're talking round and round.'"

SO TRUE.

I'm wondering if there any videos of #ITeachMath teachers using @illustratemath.bsky.social curriculum with their students available anywhere. I constantly get asked for exemplar videos by teachers in the districts I support & I wish I had a resource to point them to.

I keep seeing folks say they'll just accept a Teen Friendly account on Discord rather than scan or ID and I don't know if I wanna mass normalize leaving NSFW pals out in the cold yet again. Especially with all the censorship stuff goin on I think we gotta stand with the freaks now more than ever.

In terms of what cures are being lost:

- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

a facebook post from Ashon Crawley on February 13, 2021. It reads:

i am sympathetic to folks that say *the* reason why the black panther party of self defense was a threat was because of the breakfast program. i am also sympathetic to the folks that say that is too reductive, that they were more than a breakfast progrum.* i think it’s in the middle: the BPP was a threat because they practiced care. and care showed up *as* a breakfast program, yes, but also as health clinics, as armed defense, as reading groups. care work as political organizing. care as the grounds for its emergence. care. one reason i’ve focused on care in my own work for years now is because black feminist thought informs my own, and black queer critique. and because care is often considered the antithesis of ā€œserious thingsā€ and i’m just fundamentally against this. if care is soft or frilly or whatever, we need to have a preferential option for softness.
care is something white supremacist capitalist patriarchy cannot give nor withhold, even when it tries to privatize care as an industry that is primarily about making money and exploiting workers. care is not private property, it only exists when it is shared. care is the antithesis and alternative to white supremacy, to riff on cedric robinson, because it must be. but it is so much more. it exceeds the logic of reactive response to practices of violence. it precedes the violence and political economy of extraction and exploitation. care, even if soft, ain’t easy. it takes courage. and conviction. and clarity. (i’m a former preacher, so the alliteration is a throwback lol.) you only have care when you share it. and sharing it is difficult precisely because the political economy of racial capitalism wants us to privatize and hoard what we consider it to be.
care. let it flower and bloom. selah. šŸŒøšŸ’•

Your reasons are your reasons and they are good enough.
