When I rarely read anything published after 1900, this was a book that changed how I thought about literature. Also, David Malouf lived next-door to my mates in 1980s Chippendale and didn't seem to mind at all. Good times. Beautiful writing.

Any government that isn't right now accelerating plans to transition to 100% clean, renewable energy is either:

a. Incompetent
b. In the pockets of people who'd rather they didn't
c. a & b

I need writers to stop writing flop-sweat articles claiming “everyone” uses AI. Like baby you give away your artistic soul if you want, no one’s stopping you, but you don’t get to self-soothe on a lie. You’re not an artist anymore and other people still are, and that’s the price of your laziness

I guess we should credit Minister Willis for fronting a press conference about the fuel crisis, if only to inform us the Govt plans to do exactly nothing.

But if she expects us to believe NZ's WORST CASE SCENARIO is a 3.5% rise in inflation, she takes us for fools.

Derisory levels of leadership.

Willis stands by her government's decision to remove the electric vehicle rebate.
She said the rebate was very untargetted.
"I simply don't accept the idea that giving subsudies to millionaires in Remuara would help those afflicted by high petrol prices," Willis said.

The insistence on characterising EV subsidies as a perk for millionaires instead of sensible way of kickstarting a necessary transformation away from fossil fuels, when they explicitly singled out landlords for preferential tax relief, is both stupid and disingenuous.

I won't be taking any lectures from this government about the previous government's ability to communicate complex issues clearly.

It's genuinely insane that our own Prime Minister doesn't know that it is literally part of his job to explain.

Hi, if you’re asking AI to write your book you’re not actually writing. You’re poking a Frankenparrot fashioned from rotting flesh on stolen bones covered in the feathers of a million other birds. You’re condoning theft. You’re trashing our planet. You’re robbing yourself of the chance to grow

"Clear majority of New Zealanders value the influence of the Treaty on Government decisions or thinking there should be more" is another way to package exactly the same results. A Choice that RNZ picked the way in the QT.

Judith Collins resigns after a near quarter century in politics She has been in Parliament for more than 20 years, as the MP for Clevedon, and then Papakura.

good riddance to Minister Judith Collins, who orchestrated the present gutting of New Zealand's science funding establishment

I've not seen or heard any coverage today that mentions this tiny detail, affecting 100s of millions of public dollars and endangering NZ's entire intellectual community

The people who spent years defending and even lionizing Kyle Rittenhouse and Ashli Babbitt now want us to believe that an unarmed mother in her car and a disarmed nurse were domestic terrorists who deserved to be murdered by law enforcement.
