Clonal vs sexual reproduction is therefore central to understanding plant resilience and adaptation.The review links mycorrhiza, epigenetics and reproduction into one framework, showing how plant–fungus interactions may shape responses to changing environments across generations.

In clonal plants, epigenetic changes may persist more easily across generations: offspring can retain stress memories from the parent plant.
In sexually reproducing plants, those epigenetic marks are more often reset. That means mycorrhiza-induced effects may be passed on differently, or not at all.
