Pintail, a winter duck in Britain, always look like they are made from velvet.

Colour of the bottom bill in adults. It's orange on the female, all-black on the mae.
In a cold winter, more than two thirds of our kingfishers can die, as places freeze over. The recent cold drove this male to sit twelve feet away from me at WWT Slimbridge.

You have Mr. And Mrs. Robin. I have a pair who squabble all the time - until it's time to mate, that is.
Photo of a wild roe deer in a forest. If you're interested in how I got the picture, the story is here:

This is a young urban fox I call 'fleck' becuase of the small black mark on the end of her muzzle. She is one of a family living in a small area of unused land near a busy main road. I suspect comeone local is feeding them because all of the family are very healthy with glossy coats
velvet scoter drake
Common Scoter drake
Velvet Scoter near Banbury, and a Common Scoter on a canal in Gloucestershire. What's going on? These species should both be hanging around the coasts. It's great to see them, but I'd rather they were in their natural habitat.
