📢 Data Call Alert!
We’re building an international database for tree species classification! Share aerial RGB/RGBI imagery & manual tree species annotations by 30 Nov 2024. Contributors will join as co-authors! Here: https://bit.ly/3As0v17 #RemoteSensing #OpenData

More than 20k individual 3D trees are now gathered in one place to benchmark deep-learning models to classify tree species.

Amazing initiative led by @stefanopuliti!
The data and codes are open, and a preprint is ready! 👏

CRS Allometries We are approaching you based on the next step we are taking in one of the practical cases of WG1 3DForEcoTech COST Action, the one related to allometries and close range remote sensing (CRS). We are preparing a paper related to the usage of destructive data to develop allometric models for explaining volume or biomass of various species using CRS-and/or traditional measurements. We will work at tree level. Based on it, we would like to ask you if you have data from destructive measurements (traditional approach) and any CRS scan of the same tree. This kind of data is quite scarse and involves a lot of work. Therefore, the value of this data, combined from different locations/countries is even greater and we would really appreciate if you could help us in the compilation of information to improve the knowledge of this topic. If you can provide this kind of data (together with a review of the manuscript), we would like to offer you co-authorship in the publication for your datasets (one person per dataset). Together with the data, we need some extra information to analyse, classify and homogenise the information in further steps. In case you have any doubt, please do not hesitate to contact us: meinrad.abegg@wsl.ch, menendez.maria@inia.csic.es

We are approaching you 📣 in relation to allometries and close range remote sensing (CRS). We are looking for destructive data and CRS data for the same #trees 🌳🌲 of any #species. Do you have such data and want to collaborate with us? Just, fill this up: https://t.co/eXqRO4RR8I

The essence of research: Staying curious while failing. We learn the most during the process of failure! So be patient with yourself and jump into the trial-error process to learn faster! Let’s share our experience - how do you find your way out of frustrating moments in science?

We asked our experts and: communication is key! If you don’t adapt your language to your audience when presenting your research, you can’t count on being understood. On the other side the audience has to be curious! And how to achieve that? Have fun! #science #ecology #PhD

We interviewed students about their interdisciplinary experience: “If you don’t understand something, it’s good to take a step back & take it as a challenge”says Lucas Chojnacki (University of Wageningen). This, and seeing what results he’s aiming at while programming helps!
