Look at all that DEI sending astronauts around the moon.
Four line graphs show cognitive composite z-scores over 24 months, comparing exercise vs. no exercise and IRVR vs. no IRVR for PACC and NIHTB-CB. Participant numbers are listed for each group at each time point.
Aerobic exercise, intensive blood pressure and cholesterol reduction, or both did not show differences in cognitive function improvement over 24 months among older adults with family history of #dementia or subjective #cognitive decline.

An article in @jama.com finds that having patients use a decision tool results in less discontinuation and improved depressive and anxiety symptoms at 24 weeks.

Congratulations to 2 lab members who have retired from our group. Yun Wang and Ms Carmen White. Thanks for their dedication to work and teaching of new generation of researchers @jesslin23.bsky.social @giaconajohn.bsky.social
Graph of award probability of R35 and R01 from NIH factbook as a function of review rank percentile. As is apparent, 2025 is a significant departure, with lower award probabilities at all scores <40 and significant departures from norm, where even being in the top 10% is no longer a nearly certain indicator of success. Data source: https://report.nih.gov/nihdatabook/report/302
The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted.
What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards.
Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.

Excellent overview in The Washington Post on the systemic impact of sustained hypertension — from LVH to CKD and cognitive decline.
Kudos to Drs. @drwanpen.bsky.social , John B, and @jordybc.bsky.social for evidence base insight.

I was looking up the history of SGLT2 inhibitors and found this article on “phlorizinized men” and saw the first paragraph included “this evidence is direct and unequivocal in the case of the aglomerular fish” which made me double check the authors and sure enough there was

Imaging Studies of the Abdomen and Pelvis. A three-dimensional volume-rendered image of the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries (Panel A) shows no evidence of stenosis or renal-artery abnormalities. An axial CT image, obtained in the portovenous phase after the administration of intravenous contrast material (Panel B), reveals a hypoenhancing, partially exophytic mass in the left kidney (arrow). A sagittal image obtained from contrast-enhanced CT in the portovenous phase (Panel C) shows the same lesion (white arrow), with a more hypodense focus along its superior margin (black arrow). An axial T1-weighted MRI, obtained after the administration of intravenous contrast material (Panel D), shows a hypointense, hypoenhancing lesion in the left kidney (arrow). A coronal T2-weighted MRI (Panel E) shows the lesion with predominantly hypointense signal (white arrow) and a small superior cystic component (black arrow).

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

JAMA study: Spinal manipulation, self-management, and medical care for adults with acute or subacute low back pain (LBP). Results show the number of patients randomized in each therapy with findings on disability and pain.
Among patients with newly diagnosed or recent #LBP at moderate or high risk of chronicity, clinician-supported biopsychosocial self-management produced a greater proportion achieving ≥50% reduction in #disability over 12 months compared to medical care.

Black-and-white photograph of Marie Curie in her Paris laboratory. She stands in a long dark dress with a high collar, carefully holding a glass round-bottom flask, surrounded by early 20th-century scientific equipment including a large glass carboy on the bench behind her. The two-time Nobel laureate is captured mid-experiment, focused and composed.
Black-and-white photograph of Irène Joliot-Curie in a white lab coat at the Radium Institute. Marie Curie’s daughter and 1935 Nobel Chemistry co-winner stands at a workbench lined with beakers, test tubes, and glassware, her expression serious and concentrated amid the tools of radioactivity research.
#OTD in 1903, Marie Curie became the first woman to win a #Nobel Prize (#Physics).
AND
#OTD in 1935, her daughter Irene Joliot-Curie won the Nobel Prize in #Chemistry for the discovery of artificial radioactivity.
They're the only mother–daughter pair to have both won Nobel Prizes. #WomenInSTEM
