💡 Key insight: Preserving PIP3 signaling through PTEN inhibition protects against cardiac dysfunction and fibrosis, highlighting a potential therapeutic opportunity.
But this adaptation proves insufficient. Chronic angiotensin II still drives hypertrophy, t-tubule disruption, fibrosis, and diastolic dysfunction.
The researchers found widespread phosphoinositide imbalance and internalization of L-type CaV1.2 calcium channels from t-tubules into endosomal compartments. Yet remarkably, calcium currents are preserved through compensatory PKA and CaMKII signaling.
Compelling new study by @maartjewesthoff.bsky.social, Taylor Voelker, @roseedixon.bsky.social et al. This latest work in Circulation Research explores what happens when angiotensin II signaling becomes chronic. www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/...
This new @pnas.org paper by Yuhua Tian from #PMB Zheng Lab, et al, uncovers TRPM4 as the hub to four major signaling systems. The study reveals how PIP₂ “locks/unlocks” channel activity, helping explain organ-specific diseases from TRPM4 mutations. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
Beat-locked ATP microdomains in the sinoatrial node map a Ca2+-timed energetic hierarchy and regional pacemaker roles. New study from Manuel F. Muñoz, Fernando Santana @lfsantana68.bsky.social and colleagues @ucd-physiology.bsky.social rupress.org/jgp/article/...

Congratulations on this grant @vyy-sf.bsky.social !!
Congrats to Vladimir Yarov-Yarovoy on the GenScript Life Science Research Grant for his AI-driven drug discovery work!
His research on ion channels could help treat arrhythmias and neuropathic pain. Selected from 500+ applications, an outstanding achievement!
Muñoz, @lfsantana68.bsky.social et al. show that beat-locked cytosolic and mitochondrial ATP transients in sinoatrial node myocytes sort into high-gain, low-gain, or consumption-dominant modes aligned with superior–inferior vascular–mitochondrial gradients. rupress.org/jgp/article/...
