It's a gorgeous day for our Camp Family Fun Day, where families who have a camper registered for summer were invited to visit together and bring friends for a little taste of #NatureCamp activities. Families were able to enjoy nature hikes with Flicker...

A poster by Bird and Moon for Flap dot org. In a comic-style format, a bird explains for humans that window collisions kill billions of birds worldwide each year. Birds don't really get windows, and instead see a safe space past the glass, reflected outdoor plants, a reflected rival bird (themselves), or outdoor plants viewed through transparent corner windows. What can you do? There are cheap, easy, attractive fixes. Create a visual barrier for birds to see using window tape for vertical lines, string or ribbon hanging down, decals, or window film. Put these on the outside of the window, spaced 2 inches or 5 centimeters apart or less. You can also make window strikes less deadly. Keep bird feeders and baths close to windows. One point five feet or a half-metre away or closer. You can also u screens on the outside of windows. To learn more visit FLAP dot org. Thank you, bird hero.

It's the start of National Wildlife Week in Canada and the start of spring migration, so it's the perfect time to make sure your windows are as bird-friendly as they can be.

This great poster by @rosemarymosco.com summarizes the problem of window collisions; learn what you can do at birdsafe.ca

Then the middle of the walk included squirrels and chipmunks and winter songbirds, plus we stopped to look at some signs of wildlife, such as muskrat and beaver lodges.

A coyote-shaped blur beyond the branches of shrubs and trees.

Yesterday we took a nature walk in honour of World Wildlife Day, and although we were clear with the participants that we could make no promises, the wildlife turned out to be very cooperative!

We were only just leaving the garden area when a coyote strolled by (but did not stop for photos):

BLACKBIRDS!

February 28, 2026. Starting my #SpringMigrstion watch now (though the snow buntings last week might’ve counted…)
Saw my #FOY blackbirds at Humber Bay Park West. They weren’t posing for portraits, of course. Hungry and tired after crossing the lake, but singing and calling in the brush.

The #BizBiodiversity Assessment is the first of its kind to help align the economy with nature. 🌍

As @ipbes.net ES Dr Luthando Dziba says “It’s about understanding both the dependencies and impacts of business on biodiversity—and turning that evidence into action.”

Kudos to @humberpoly.bsky.social Journalism student Mason Kossak for covering the change of the Doomsday Clock. The accelerating climate crisis is one of the factors over which scientists are sounding the alarm.

Former Liberal cabinet minister Kirsty Duncan dead at 59 | CBC News Former Liberal cabinet minister Kirsty Duncan has died at the age of 59 following a years-long battle with cancer.

A sad loss for Canada. Kirsty Duncan was always a great fan and supporter of the Arb, not just as the MP for Etobicoke North, but as an individual who was passionate about nature and science. We send our condolences to her friends, colleagues, and family.
