Finished my "Forbidden Words" piece. I didn't attend Quiltcon but was so proud of all the fiber artists that had created their art quilts to protest against the administration removing hundreds of words and phrases from multiple websites and federal agencies.

Doom & Gloom From The Tomb Television - The Theatre of Living Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, December 2, 1992 We dealt with some vintage 1976 Television situations last week. So how about some slightly less vintage...

All hail @scottythered.bsky.social for his sonic wizardry on this Television tape — it can now be counted among the very best recordings of the band from the early 1990s.

Anybody got any suggestions for a new career?

I liked software work because I liked problem solving and learning new things. Work is now forcing me to offload those skills to LLMs. I have to babysit them doing my job while my colleagues babysit LLMs arguing about the code changes done in my name.

I feel for you, Paul, but it seems like the answer is to just permanently disable replies/quotes on all of your posts

In a scene from the B&w movie Scrooge (1951, released as A Christmas Carol in the United States) an adaptation of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol (1843), Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge has awoken on Christmas morning after being visited by the three ghosts, he leans out the window and tells:

YOU BOY
ARE THE STRAITS OF HORMUZ OPEN OR CLOSED TODAY

Inside the Lonely World of MAGA Gay Men

In a time when gay rights are under attack in the U.S., a minority of gay American men are still staunch Trump supporters. Why?

Interesting note: since a few metal pieces of Robert Johnson's recordings still exist, the 2011 Centennial Edition album used polystyrene pressings made from these metal masters by a Dutch 78rpm expert who has a special press in his barn.

My teenage nephew was on the way to a show in Madison and had to take shelter in a Portillo's bathroom during a tornado watch. Props to my sister and my brother in law for making sure he gets unique concert stories

Its been a minute since I've seen live footage of Phish. Is the (glass?) screen around Fishman at the Sphere a security thing or a drum sound thing?

a friend from work sent me this message and I'm gonna boost it here: "Back in the 80s and 90s, my friend (RIP) wrote a fanzine called 'Wolfgang's Children', which Maximum RocknRoll published. If you know of any archives that might have this, please let me know."

fun fact: you could do 1 or 2 one-hour interviews for an academic library job via phone and be done with it. the secret is, there's often an expectation that your could-be coworkers have to perform extra labor, since a lot of of places count hiring committees as "internal professional service"

And there are occasions where the interview begins THE NIGHT BEFORE, so you have to be "on" for dinner, morning interviews, lunch, afternoon interviews and a presentation, then possibly a second dinner

I've been saying this for awhile but putting these ads in public places, where regular people, not companies, can see them is not meant as an ad, but as a threat.

the inconvenience in question:
- standing up
- getting a physical medium carrier (Hi, MARC) off the shelf
- playing said carrier

the "convenience" implied:
- giving complete control of your personal media library to a corporation that can take it away from you at any time, even if you paid for it

I humbly ask you to start vetting posts & threads before boosting them

especially asking yourself: is this person taking criticism of their shitty personal behavior and making it into commentary about a marginalized group that they belong to?

9. The ruling is monumental for trans Montanans. Because the decision rests entirely on the Montana Constitution, it is insulated from the U.S. Supreme Court.

"Montana case law interpreting the Individual Dignity provisions directs our analysis, not federal precedent."
