I know a good handful of published authors -- they have never been asked to pay money to reduce the publisher's risk. This is actually the third time this publisher rejected my book after holding it in query for a whole year.
I think what has really happened is the publishing industry has turned into a pay-to-play proposition. The only people who will have their books published now are the rich, because they can bribe a publisher. Same goes for record labels, I'm starting to hear.
I'm still having a hard time getting over the fact that the largest trade publisher of books on Louisiana, with annual revenue estimated at $25M, asked me how much money I was willing to give them to publish my book of photos of Plaquemines Parish, to reduce the risk to their owners.
No, because presidents can only serve two elected terms. Doesn't matter if it's Trump or Obama.
