Great Grey Shrike, Tindaya Plain, Fuerteventura. Formerly considered a subspecies of the Southern Grey Shrike this Canary Islands Grey Shrike "koenigi" is slightly smaller, darker and with a smaller white supercilium than the North European "excubitor" Great Grey Shrike subspecies.

This is the bird that I saw earlier from the same hide Brian. I think this is a juvenile Little Bittern. I made the assumption, erroneously, that it was the same bird that had relocated. 😆

This juvenile Red-backed Shrike first removed and ate the legs of this cricket, then the head and finally.....

The hire car in Cyprus was ok but the Cyprus Wheatear seems to like it. A convenient perch to search the dirt bank for tasty morsels.

Had a great time at Prestbury Hill and Daneway Banks today. At this time of year the birding goes quiet but butterflies take to the air. Many Chalkhill Blue, Small Blue and Silver-washed Fritillaries at Prestbury. No Large Blues at Daneway.
