Exciting stuff!
When you see a big female walck in the tray without the raised head turret it only screams one hope, yes a female W.obtusa. From deep in the leaf litter.
Have about 4 records for this now never seen the male.

Always nice to find a Walck! This female W. vigilax was the very last spider I picked up during a recent excursion; Iโve found it before but this one allowed me to photograph it properly for a change!
Love a walc, this makes 6 species at the woodland site in Sussex i record for, its Walckenaeria cuspidata.

From a wet woodland in West Sussex, leg spine count indicates Porrhomma oblitum. But to be 100% i will get my county recorder to check the specimen.
Appearance looks correct.

Porrhomma species and with the spine count on the legs ive ruled out all of them down to one species, of course this will be sent to my recorder to confirm but im 95% sure. Its Porrhomma cambridgei! A rare beast.
From a path in damp woodland.

After searching for this spider at other sites and failing to find it, i was glad to pick this male up at the weekend, old records from the site nearly 20 years old. Zelotes electus.

It gets better i had 2 females in the sample, wet woodland in moss and leaf litter below pines.

A second Important record for West Sussex, I found it last year. And found it again today at a different site. Centromerus cavernarum.

Superb! I really like this species i found them at a second site for Sussex on Christmas eve.
Another interesting Liny from the dying light of Halvana Plantation of a late afternoon last week. A second Cornish site for Maro minutus. This little 1mm thing is weirdly distinctive in the tray...aided very much by a head torch!! @britishspiders.bsky.social @cofnod.org.uk @graemelyons.bsky.social
But also like you said shame the spiders didnt make maturity.
Yeah pretty interesting ๐
At the end of last year i collected a spider i was hoping to raise that all changed when this parasitic fungi took hold of it i suspect gibellula sp. Quite fasinating really.

Honourable mentions (this list was very tough to compile and I feel I need a way to cheat a bit):
Clockwise: Gasteracantha doriae, Walckenaeria nodosa, Haplodrassus minor, Walckenaeria corniculans, (thanks @chizz13.bsky.social and @chalkspring.bsky.social)
A few from last weekend in West Sussex. Walckenaeria cucullata, Centromerus serratus and Cicurina cicur.

Great Record on Sunday, Centromerus serratus this record makes two sites now in West Sussex that ive picked this species up.

Thanks, its all so fasinating.
This Male Walckenaeria acuminata may be common but its a fantastic looking spider, since getting into Linys this Genus is so fasinating. And its great that the male and female of this species can be Identified with a hand Lens.

Oh I see ๐
Yes Centromerus cavernarum
I believe so i cannot see an records from that area, @graemelyons.bsky.social will know if its a new hectad record.
From an ancient beech woodland in West Sussex, its a pig to get to with all the gear, and to date ive never seen much there. But thats has changed samples from the 9th November have produced Centromerus cavernarum!!One i had hoped for there.
@britishspiders.bsky.social
@graemelyons.bsky.social
If you like i can try and document it with photos and send in for the BAS news letter if that helps? @britishspiders.bsky.social
For me which i shared with @chalkspring.bsky.social is i find it in the trenches in woodland where the leaf litter is deep, i then move all the fresh stuff and sieve the well rotted black layer of leaves seems to work well.
No problem ๐
