An enhanced domestication method for uncultured bacteria Abstract. When environmental bacteria transition to laboratory conditions, a process termed domestication, the shift from the native habitat to a culture m

Most bacteria remain uncultured with vast microbial ‘dark matter’ awaiting discovery.. to address this am excited to share EDEN - an enhanced domestication method to grow uncultured bacteria & new diversity. Using EDEN we isolate a new species active against MDR pathogens..

“This Year in Public Health” at #ESCMIDGlobal2026:

💊 Cutting unnecessary antibiotics isn’t just good medicine—it saves money
📉 Stewardship programs reduce overprescribing
💰 Lower drug costs, fewer adverse events, less AMR burden

Better prescribing = better outcomes + real savings

For those that don't know (included me!), Gremubamab binds specifically to the Pseudomonas aeruginosa PcrV protein and the Psl exopolysaccharide.

Both are virulence factors used for adhesion and biofilm stability.

Thanks @microsoft-copilot.bsky.social !

Among patients with #GramNegativeBacteremia, rapid #AntimicrobialSusceptibilityTesting did not improve 30-day clinical outcomes compared with standard testing, despite providing faster guidance for antibiotic escalation or deescalation.

Excellent talk from Jay Vornhagen on colonization success outcomes of Klebsiella pneumoniae.

So nice to see (micro)aerobic vs anaerobic environments considered. ABX model at the moment, but will be great to see if same principles apply to gut colonization models in metabolic health.

Advancing microbiology through foundational science - Nature Microbiology Microorganisms have tremendous potential to impact humanity, but such revelations are only possible in the light of foundational, discovery-based microbiology research.

A welcome editorial message.

Our ms on re-sampling 4 years apart vibrio phage in natural environments is now out with some improvements. First, clearer evidence of cryptic population dynamics between phage and vibrio, presumably because of genetic diversity. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

There's a common misconception that zoonotic viruses require significant adaptation to jump from animals to cause human epidemics.

Not so 👇.

Further, we see clear signs of 1977 flu experiencing cell passage, prior to epidemic.

SARS-CoV-2? Business as usual.

The diversity in microbes is breath-taking. Individual cells may not look like much under the microscope - they are just too tiny.

But when they form visible colonies on agar plates many bacteria and moulds grow in the most staggering display of colours and shapes.

One of my favorite parts about being an amateur biologist is the freedom some academics feel when talkin with me about biology ideas. I want to offer space to pure nerding. The topics and ideas in this space do good things to my brain and I chase that daily. Thanks for the warmth.
