The book THE GIRL WAKES: STORIES by Carmen Lau. Cover illustration is a sketched close-up of a girl’s head but her eyes are out of frame. THE GIRL WAKES by Carmen Lau is beautifully written. Gorgeous prose, dark edges, haunting whimsy. Feels like reading dark fairy tales or Wonderland again but subtly woven into modern settings.
