My 2nd lifer of the day with this brilliant Black-throated Thrush in Mayshiel, Lothian. Just managed to catch it before rain (and a lorry) spooked it and flew into trees for cover. What a great bird! 97 accepted UK records to 2022. Thrush #7. UK #317. #birds #ukbirding #birdseenin2025
A new study has revealed that the rare Ijima's Leaf Warbler is in fact two distinct species, with researchers formally describing 'Tokara Leaf Warbler' as new to science:
1st winter Bonaparte's Gull
Much better views of the Bonaparte's Gull feeding close in at Lynch Bay this afternoon #ukbirding #dorsetbirds
Switched from Severnside to Sand Point this morning and found a Red-rumped Swallow. Fortunately. It lingered long enough for 5 other birders to connect. A full fat Avon county tick! Boc shots by Paul Bowerman #avonbirding #ukbirding
It sang quite frequently yesterday morning in the area where it's usually photographed, but also from a bare tree in the SE corner
A small unfortunate caterpillar of some sort, I assume it must've been on the end of that stick
Thanks Mark 😂

I was fortunate to refind this Hoopoe at Waggs Plot after bumping into the local farmer who found it yesterday! A nice 10km #PWC2026 Tick! The Marsh Harrier was 1st seen at #ChardRes (thx for text Gary Andrews) & later over my Dorset patch! #DevonBirds @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social #Somersetbirding
Five drake American wigeon were on the Ogmore Estuary for their second day and showing much better at Portobello Island. A little ringed plover was on the island too. In the flight shot there were only four which were accompanied by a pair of Eurasian wigeon.

Good to get to grips with the two Bonaparte's Gulls in Lynch Cove this evening. The 2w was quite tough to pick out, but their feeding style was very distinctive and a useful feature to remember for the future. Great finds by Brett Spencer and Charlie Richards #dorsetbirds #ukbirding
Went to see the American Bittern again last night near Cork. Photo is the best I could come up with as dusk and dawn are really the only times it makes a show.

My biggest self-found blocker has fallen! Hoopoe just flown NE through Radipole RSPB. Picked it up over houses at Westham! Has just kept on going, true active migrant!
Couldn’t believe my eyes when this stunning Sardinian Warbler appeared in front of us @hilbrebirdobs.bsky.social reward for all the efforts the team put in. A cracking Redstart was nice too. #ukbirding
