Photograph taken using a macro setting of a Sedum Palmeri flower. Used my navy blue coat as a backdrop (keeping it real folks!). Bright yellow flowers with pointed petals fan out from a spiked stamen centre. Leaves are a gentle lime and look slightly squidgy, as sedum leaves tend to!

In contrast to the simplicity of the last post, here is a photograph taken yesterday using a macro settting. Labouring in the garden for my folks, I took a quick five mins to whizz round snapping the spring garden delights. Saw this lichen clinging in clumps to the structural skeleton of an azalea. Image shows various smooth, mid-brown winter branches of an established azalea across the frame. In contrast, clinging to that in clumps is frilly, silvery lichen. Behind/below this, blurred, is a border with various plants and a short length lawn. A busy image, almost too much to take in, but I like it. Bit like spring, there's al lot going on so the eye doesn't quite know what to look at first!

Photograph taken at Egglestone Abbey near Barnard Castle in North Yorkshire. Built in the C13th as a monastery, it lies in beautiful ruins today and is run by English Heritage. A monochrome filter was used to focus on the tracery detail. View of the sky through a pair of crumbling arched windows with remnants of decorative tracery. Blue sky was overhead so look at the comments for the colour version. The walls have clear rectangular indentations where wooden beams would have been anchored back in the day. Well worth a visit!
