Have you heard the boom of a bittern?

During the breeding season male bitterns make a deep, foghorn-like booming sound which can be heard up to two miles away!

In a garden setting I'd say it's more likely to be cucurbitina sensu lato (however it's not really worth trying to ID immature Araniella to species). displicata is typically restricted to Pine trees on heathland.

@arachnoteg.bsky.social @britishspiders.bsky.social Yes, this is ideal. 70% is good to use straight out of the bottle for preservation, and has the added benefit that you don't need a licence to purchase it (unlike pure IMS).

Excellent another specimen. Dave Carr had one a couple of years ago but it didn't barcode successfully. The closest I could get morphologically was Tapinocyba cf. hortensis (but not 100% certain). Long abdominal setae are interesting. Shreyas would you be willing to send this to me for barcoding?
