Sharing my review of "Sex, Genes and Chromosomes," a great new book by geneticist Jennifer A. M. Graves. Molecular biology, function and evolution of sex chromosomes, sex determination, and X-chromosome inactivation, controversial issues in sex and gender. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

A special treat for my advanced making comics Ss - virtual visit w/the great @kriotaw.bsky.social in regards to her book Draw Stronger on self-care for cartoonists! I want them to be able to make comics their whole lives! Highly recommend the book from @unciv.bsky.social uncivilizedbooks.com/draw/
A big success! We loved welcoming everyone into the lab for a hands-on exploration of biology. So much curiosity, energy, and excitement in one room. Thank you to all who came and made it such a memorable event.

Introductory slide for Dr Lisa White’s seminar. Title: Integrating paleontology collections, seagoing expeditions, and interactive web-based tools to enhance STEM instruction for undergraduate students
Enthralled with #DrLisaDWhite sharing her history and science at #SFSU @sfstatebio.bsky.social seminar. @ucmpberkeley.bsky.social Director of Education & Outreach #SF_ROCKS #geologist. Who knew the @tarpits.org #direwolves had been stored at @ucberkeleyofficial.bsky.social #SatherTower??
Meiosis faces a fundamental problem:
It must repair hundreds of DNA double-strand breaks while executing a transcriptional programme essential for gamete development.
But many of these breaks occur in genes.
So how are these two processes reconciled?

It’s that time of the year for building bigger kiddo’s popup card! I embarrassingly couldn’t pull hers off last spring, so doubly determined to get it done on time and pull out all the stops. A look back at some past ones…
My niece is one of the chefs at this new restaurant in SF that is getting great reviews if you’re interested in a date night idea and in San Francisco

Imagine standing at a cliff with an ocean view. The ocean is colored orange/yellow hues, and the scruffy grass on the cliff is white. Over the ocean is black text about the Yeast Genetics Meeting June 13-17, 2026 in Pacific Grove CA with #Yeast26. And below the black text is green text yelling "I'm Attending!"
Happy to share about #Spombe and #Soctosporus at the #Yeast26 conference in June!!
📣 Calling all yeast scientists!

#Genetics & #Justice - Genes enter the garden of good and evil | Science www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Echoing the mantra of #PersonalizedMedicine decades ago, #RanjanSinha #DigbiHealth states that for obesity & diabetes, the solution is “not one size fits all.” This misalignment of food with your biology requires data on genetics, the gut microbiome, & glucose control to convert food to a cure #PMWC
How do you respond to this statement shared by #SherryZhang @buckinstitute.org? “Women live longer than men but live longer in poor health…” A compelling motivation to make healthspan (extended lifespan with health!) computable so that biomarkers are actionable #PMWC #HealthspanHorizons

Wow! #RyanYuanchengLu @whiteheadinstitute.bsky.social presented #PMWC Luminary award to mentor @davidsinclairphd.bsky.social @harvard.edu who then gave Ryan the patent plaque on cellular reprogramming to reverse aging because gene therapy they developed 5 years ago is in the clinic this very day!
I’m on board! #NathanPrice @buckinstitute.org presented #PMWC Luminary award to #NirBarzilai @einsteinmededu.bsky.social who shared a vision of a future meeting on #PrecisionHEALTH instead of #PrecisionMedicine
From today’s #PMWC2026 Precision #Aging & #Longevity Track, CONGRATULATIONS to #PMWC Luminary award honoree #SteveHorvath #AltosLabs presented by @davidsinclairphd.bsky.social @harvard.edu
Photo shows one book on left called Asian American and Pacific Islander history, with many folks representing different Asian/Pacific Islander cultures posing together wearing colorful clothing, with the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance behind them. On the right is a second book called Crown City by Naomi Hirahara. The cove has a blue background, and a tree branch with yellow leaves frames the top of the book cover. Behind and below the tree branch and occupying over half of the book cover is a red tinged inset image of the front of an old building with a grand entrance, perhaps a hotel, with a fronds of a palm tree sitting slightly below the yellow leaves of the tree branch. Below the two books is a flat colorful paper cut out of a cherry blossom with purple, pink, and white, set on a dark green square.
An honor to meet author #Naomi_Hirahara at #BookShop_West_Portal tonight. Two books signed, learned about cherry blossom #kirigami (Thank you, Komo!), and enthralled with the research journey for this 3rd #Japantown_Mystery. Thanks for shining a light on this history!!

Happy New Year, everyone. For this #microscopymonday, here is a moss (Physcomitrium patens) protoplast (wall-less cell) transformed with a nuclear marker (in magenta). The much brighter area is the nucleolus. The chlorophyll autofluorescence is in green.
