Career highlight today. Finally got to hear Jenny Malloy aka Hackney child speak. Followed her for many years, read all her books & always found her so inspiring. Honoured to hear her story first hand today. Deeply moving & powerful. Her books are a must-read for fellow social workers.
So sad. His contribution to protecting the rights of children was exceptional. Such a positively influential man of deep humanity who leaves a lasting legacy.

The report is genuinely shocking. Rigid, out dated and frankly harmful ādisciplineā. Never ok, but in the context of the current youth mental health crisis, even more shocking. High results do not justify practices such as this, or come before safeguarding.
Yes, but the fact I actually remember the days of paper notes, makes me think..Iāve really been doing this work for a long time!
The data makes it clear: current policy is failing vulnerable young people. Urgent reform is needed to ensure every child receives the care they deserve. #KeepCaringTo18
The loudest voices arenāt always the most representative. Imagine the change if the silent majority stepped up and spoke with the same energy as the loud minority.
Exactly. We need long-term, preventative support, not just crisis responses.
Witnessing resilience in the face of impossible systems is both humbling and heartbreaking.
Sending you much love and continued strength xx
Agreed; addressing VAWG needs to start with facing the facts, not the headlines.
I prosecute and defend the most serious sexual offences in our courts.
The overwhelming majority of offenders are British-born. Overwhelmingly the victim is someone known to them, either a partner or relative.
Anybody purporting to care about protecting women might start there.
Absolutely this. Childrenās behaviour is communication ā especially when theyāve been hurt. We must understand the pain behind the actions to help them heal.
Lots of evidence Sure Start had many lasting beneficial effects so this is an encouraging development

Thank you, Sharon, for sharing your powerful story. Kinship carers like you are the backbone of so many families. Great that #CarersWeek2025, recognises the dedication, resilience, and love kinship carers bring every day. š
How sad it could not be seen as an opportunity to talk to children about love, acceptance, and the beauty of diversity. These are values we need the next generation to grow up with!
Are you a social worker in England with experience in coastal communities? We are looking for social workers and ex-social workers with experience working in coastal communities to participate in an important research study. Your insights and expertise can make a real impact on understanding the unique workforce challenges faced in these communities. If you have experience of practicing social work in coastal communities, either currently or previously, we want to hear from you. Participate in an interview and contribute to meaningful research that will shape future support strategies. For doing so you will be compensated with a £25 Amazon (or other store of your choice) voucher. If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact: coastalsocialwork@bucks.ac.uk. This research is a collaboration between Buckinghamshire New University, The Open University, Bath Spa University and Edge Hill University. It is funded by the National Institute for Health and Social Care Research. Thank you Professor Jermaine Ravalier (Research Lead)

This is dreadfully sad. And as pointed out, shockingly, many, many young people are in similar situations.

What a wonderful story. We need more like this! Shocking to read this is the only such placement of this kind in Dorset though!

Yes me too, I could not have worked and studied for my degree without it. However, the calculations were often wrong and at one point resulted in me having a very large debt that took years to pay back.
