One year and 3 months into the Bomba-Warczak lab… and we’re celebrating our very first PhD candidate — Tristan!
Couldn’t be prouder. Congratulations!! 🎉

Travelling to the future again. This thursday, we will be nosy and learn about mitochondria and their friendships.
The MITOscience of tomorrow is back.
Three short mitochats presented by
Débora Santos Rocha @deborasrocha.bsky.social ,
Valentin L’Hôte @valentinlhote.bsky.social and
Marijana Croon @marijanacroon.bsky.social
Visit mitotalks.org for zoom link details.
Will you time travel with us?
Really thrilled to have our work on mitochondrial presequence strength out today @jcb.org. We establish quantitative parameters to better define "strong" and "weak" presequences both in vitro and in vivo. This work was spearheaded by the ever talented Youmian Yan, a BBSB graduate student in my lab.
In case you overloaded mitochondria and peroxisomes during your holidays, know that they are talking about it... and our speaker Peter Kim overheard the conversation.
This thursday, usual time and place. See you there?
congratulations!!
MITOchats are all about early career researchers and - of course - mitochondria! Join us tomorrow for three short talks delivered by Julia Riley @joulesriley.bsky.social, Eleonora Stronati, and Joan Blanco-Fernandez @joanblanco.bsky.social. See mitotalks.org for zoom link.
See you all Thursday at MITOchats!! @mitotalks.bsky.social @mito-news.bsky.social @mitowomen.bsky.social @mitoworld.bsky.social

Screenshot of CellBio app. It reads: Spotlight: What’s next: Cell Biology from ASCB MOSAIC Program Alumni Location: 116 Date: Monday Dec 8 5:30PM Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes In this session, six alumni of the ASCB MOSAIC Program (AMP) will present their latest research on a range of cell biology topics. The goal of the NIH-funded MOSAIC program, now concluded, was to diversify the tenure track faculty at research-intensive universities nationwide. AMP alumni are leaders in both their subfields of cell biology and in advancing equity and inclusion in the academic biosciences. Learning objectives include gaining new knowledge of cutting-edge cell biology research and networking with rising-star speakers.

If you’re at #CellBio2025 coming to the MOSAIC scholar session today at 5:30pm in room 116!
First group conference for the Bomba-Warczak lab #CellBio2025 in Philadelphia!
Come find us at poster session today - Molly Healey (P#0705) and tomorrow @tristanwrong.bsky.social (P#1257), and at the spotlight session on the now terminated NIH MOSAIC program tonight at 5:30pm.
It's like a colony of ants. mesmerizing !!
Candid photo of Zara Weinberg. She has short red hair, bangs and glasses. She is laughing.
The Leading Edge Fellows gathered this week to celebrate Zara Weinberg, a beloved member of our community. Our 7th cohort of Leading Edge Fellows (2026) will be named in her honor.
The Zara Weinberg Leading Edge Cohort application is now open! Due Feb 2.

Photo of Jaye Gardiner, a Black woman with long curly black hair, wearing dark green glasses and a coral colored sleeveless top, holding an iPad with the words “Jaye’s 1st day” written largely. Underneath it’s written “as an assistant professor 9/2/2025” although that doesn’t come out as clear in the photo.
Hello world! Today’s officially the first day of the lab! It’s an empty space currently only filled with ideas (that I don’t have card access to yet 😂) but I’m excited for the science that will happen here! -JCG
So proud to be a part of this amazing morning. Location ocean beach San Francisco

Launching a new lab in today’s climate has been anything but smooth sailing—but today, we celebrate a major milestone! I’m absolutely thrilled to welcome not one, but two incredible graduate students to the lab! 🙌 Welcome Tristan and Molly!
