🌍 Today on #WorldOstomyDay, we’re raising awareness of the diverse realities of living with a #stoma.
For some in our #IBD community, it’s life-saving, liberating, and brings relief. For others, it can feel overwhelming, isolating, or a reminder of what’s been lost. 💜
We’re hiring!

The latest AGA IBS survey shows that symptoms disrupt work an average of 11 days per month and personal life 8 days. To me, this highlights the need for providers to listen closely, tailor treatments, and address both symptoms and quality of life to better support those living with #IBS. #PX

Chris, he is precious. 🥰
As a clinical health psychologist I endorse this message.
We're a small group & perhaps not so well known about. I see the calls to 'integrate mental health support into physical health' & I get it & support it. I'm just saying we are here👋 And aiming for HOLISTIC care for all, with access to specialist care for those who need it, is a good way to go. /end
For example, people overwhelmed by T1 Diabetes, or distress about IBD or cancer, or stigma in HIV. There are so many examples. We dont typically see these as 'mental health problems'. They are human reactions to coping with a health condition, & our input is just another part of holistic care. (2/3)
I want to say a bit about clinical health psychology.
We are psychologists who work in physical health contexts. We aim to support more holistic, multidisciplinary care for all patients, & to work with individual people & couples with the psychological impact of having a health condition. (1/3)
We are excited to announce the launch of our new podcast highlighting the latest in Gastropsych research. Our first episode features an interview with Dr. Sarah Ballou.
As a psychologist working in chronic conditions, I see all the time how a person may know what they SHOULD do, but that does not equate to what they do do. This is normal- people are not robots
Telling people what to do does not work. It just unhelpfully & unrealistically puts blame on individuals.
Medicaid covers almost half (47%) of births in rural areas and 40% in metro areas. Cuts to Medicaid can seriously affect maternal and infant health outcomes.

The 90s really were the Wild West for music trends, like what do you mean big-band music is a thing again? Tap dancing? Speed harmonica? Okay sure.
New publication- here we show equal prevalence of urinary and gynecologic symptoms regardless of anatomic region affected in the digestive tract. We suggest when 4+ symptoms are present (~25% of pts), it is worth additional exploration w/ GYN/URO 🩸
