Thousands of exons carry enhancer activity. We validate EEs with STARR-seq, luciferase assays, and CRISPRi, and show disease relevance via TCGA and GWAS data.
A paradigm shift in how we interpret coding regions!

Exons can regulate genes too!
Our new work shows that many coding exons are also enhancers, identified across species, and diseases. These exonic enhancers (EEs) can modulate gene expression and present regulatory variants.

Exons ≠ just protein code. We identify 13,000+ exonic enhancers in humans and show their regulatory activity with ChIP-seq, STARR-seq, and CRISPRi.
Mutations in EEs impact expression & patient survival in cancer.

Just out on bioRxiv!
Our latest study uncovers a widespread class of dual-function elements: Exonic Enhancers (EEs) — coding sequences that also act as cis-regulatory enhancers.

I had a great time presenting at the Institut Français de Bioinformatique (IFB) / ELIXIR France annual meeting! Got valuable feedback during my talk ! I’m optimistic about the support for the ReMap resource from the IFB and look forward to the collaborations ahead !
