This is my last #OnThisDay tweet today & it features an iconic #F1 car: a ’61 Ferrari 156. #AnorakFact: sitting in it is Giancarlo Baghetti, the only man to win the first championship F1 GP he entered, the ’61 #FrenchGP. He was born #OnThisDay in ’34. #MerryChristmas one & all!🎄

Lovely dawn this morning.

Yes. Spent many a happy hour with Michael, both at races and at his studio in Pinner. Humble, kind and creative - no surprise that Bruce McLaren commissioned Michael to design the first McL logo and livery. Michael oved to fly his Chipmunk, too.

Very much so. Lovely, intelligent guy. He and Donatella were shining lights in the pit lanes of the 1970s. Super-quick in Ferrari F2 cars and in any breed of Alfa.

I was a big Rikky fan. Fast, smooth F3 driver who was bright enough to do loads of testing. I totally respected his loyalty to Mo Nunn, too. And how many other F1 drivers had original Warhols in their living rooms? Top Man.

Here I am, just about to take Alain Prost’s Renault turbo for a spin at Ricard. Carlos Reutemann kindly provided one of his helmets for the occasion.

Hard to beat the artistic beauty of the Sid Taylor/Denny Hulme livery, fonts and graphics. A great example of simplicity triumphing over complexity.

I took this pic of my mate shortly after he won Macau in ‘83. We watched the race on TV for while before going into Reading for a bite to eat.

Dexter's a bit confused by all the rain we're having here in Spain. Loves barking at the thunder, though.

#OnThisDay in ’76 Hunt won the #USGP after a race-long duel with Scheckter’s 6-wheel Tyrrell, here leading Hunt’s McLaren. Jody led more laps than James did, but James was ahead at the end, thereby closing to 3 points shy of Lauda’s total (65 versus 68). Next came Fuji...

David McKay’s brand new Ferrari 330 P4 V12 Spyder being unpacked after its journey by ship to Australia in late 1967. It would be driven brilliantly by Chris Amon in the support races for the upcoming Australian leg of the Tasman Championship.

Definitely one of the best-looking #F1 cars of all time. Polychromatic green with flame-orange nose. Hard to beat. Graham Hill saysat perfectly in the car, too. Not too high, not too low. Magic.

#OnThisDay in ’64 Graham Hill (BRM; pic) won #USGP at Watkins Glen - the 2nd of his 3 consecutive #F1 GP wins there. 2nd was John Surtees (NART Ferrari) & 3rd was Jo Siffert (Rob Walker Brabham).
