Let’s do an indie author appreciation posts and who better to start with than Kim Alexander. As one of my oldest clients, Kim is always amazing to work with. We can read each other’s minds and know exactly how we want to move forward with edits.

Solid dark green background. Turquoise texts on the top that says, “Testimonials.” On the bottom right corner, the company name, “Book Light Editorial” is there in green font next to a dark jade colored flower. On the left side of the graphic, there is a golden raven sitting on a branch that is covered in flowers. The main text reads, “Carly is absolutely amazing and I can't recommend her enough. It was my first time doing a developmental edit for a book and I wasn't sure how useful it would be, but the thorough read and input from Carly was invaluable to making my story better. I used the Neon Indie Bundle and having the edits looked at twice really gave me peace of mind that the changes I'd made were the right ones. Carly gives the perfect balance of praise and constructive feedback through detailed assessments. I can't wait to work with her again.”

Solid dark teal background. The main text says, “Disclaimer.” The body text says, “As always, general advice is complicated and hard. There are always exceptions and times when it isn’t applicable. This is why getting individual feedback can be so important. Remember: use the advice that works best for you and your writing!”

How to make a satisfying ending

Even if you want to leave things open-ended or land on a cliffhanger, there should still be something conclusive for the book – whether that’s a complete arc, or a resolution of the initial conflict.

The image has a solid dark jade color background. In the bottom left corner, the company symbol is there which is an open book with a lightbulb in the center. The main text says, “Editing Familiars: The three aspects of our editorial approach.” There are three items in the middle; a golden raven, a black cat, and a jade dragon. Underneath each character, there is some text that reads, “The Raven: Knowledge and creativity, The Cat: Supportive and long-lasting partnerships, The Dragon: Protection of your voice and vision.”

Every author should have a compassionate and insightful editorial team as part of their crew. From developmental editing to copyediting, we work with both indie and traditional authors to help forge their story.

Heads up #RevPit, I've sent out all my emails to my #10queries people! So check your spam!

And just a reminder: 10Queries are randomly determined by each editor based on their own metrics. It's not good or bad that you were chosen for them! It's just some extra feedback.

This! Also there is no "shortlist" really. Just ones that some editors were still considering. The only official stuff is the winner/runner-up.

Take all the kudos you want from being seriously considered, but don't put too much weight on it! #RevPit

I want to clarify that #RevPit #10Queries is not the same as the top 10. Editors pick subs for 10Queries based on feedback that can benefit any writer. There may be overlap with top picks, but it's necessarily not a direct correlation. Several of my shortlist were not in my 10Queries and vice versa.

I can't wait to work on this piece with @corrineonawhim.bsky.social! The setting and DRAMA are incredibly engrossing. I just love rich boys being stupid and summoning demons. (P.S. it's very much not a romance, little typo there!) #RevPit

Congratulations to all the winners & runners-up!

If you weren't pick please remember: none of this is a condemnation of your work. There were SO many amazing pieces. It often comes down to a gut call. Your words are still wonderful. Plus, the community is the most valuable thing here anyway #RevPit

WELCOME TO PREVIEW WEEK!

While we're waiting for our winners, let's go over what you need for camp.
1st- What is #CampRevPit?

#CampRevPit came out of the 2020 Annual Contest when mental health was suffering and was an idea for how to help writers cope with rejection after winners were announced.

P20: There's a bit of a tonal imbalance. The stakes of the moment are quite serious but the MC's interiority is unintentionally laissez faire. We need to balance the wry humor better with the emotionally charged moment. #RevPit #10Queries

Q20: A SF Focus more on the characters and the conflict and less on the comps. Comps are important, don't get me wrong, but the query is about your story, so don't lose that focus. Give us more clarity on why we want to read the book for the book's sake. #RevPit #10Queries
