I love the cardinal feather in their nest. “We’re here with you even when we’re not”

A little nesting update.

Our Bluebirds are growing fast and no longer naked.
We peeked at our Chickadee nest—eggs have hatched.
A Cardinal is nesting in our backyard Honeysuckle.
Another Cardinal built a nest in a front‑yard bush.
Sadly we lost a Robin's nest and a Mourning Dove's nest.

Many miles from home, sitting on the boardwalk watching the ocean, and a random older couple just stopped to talk to me. Turns out we are from the same hometown. #Synchronicity abound. 💫

A color, macrophoto of a Robin perched on a branch in Virginia, during late April, 2026. The capture was taken during rain and the photographer snapped the photo at the split second a raindrop fell on the top of the bird's head, making it appear like a "natural" crown.

A great blue heron drinks and splashes water over its perch after eating a fish in Longmont, Colorado. In this horizontal color photograph, a weathered log stretches across the pond from left to right. Just left of center, the heron faces the camera, drinking as it shakes and fluffs its feathers. The scene is nearly perfectly mirrored on the pond’s surface, reflecting both the bird and the branch. Soft twilight clouds and the deepening blue of the evening sky ripple gently in the water, creating a striking, contemplative image that captures the quiet beauty of the natural world.

Ok I absolutely recommend making yourself a bird bag. Excellent weekend project. Extremely funny if you add legs. The pattern is pretty well done, I wish some steps included more detailed diagrams or photos.

😍 for the past few years I’ve only dreamt of seeing such massive migrations in action, but it looks like I am finally going to make it to Cape May next month so dreams may come true!

The speckles rule out Robin, they remind me of Brown Thrasher eggs (nest checks out too) so I’m gonna go with some kind of thrasher that I’ve yet to learn 😆

I was delighted to hear the "sweet-sweet-I'm-so-sweet" song of the Northern Yellow Warbler in my backyard marsh yesterday. Two of them were singing; perhaps they having a sing-off to see who gets to nest in the area.
