#Artemis is circling the Moon right now. And later this week, our team's experiment launches to the #ISS. Tiny worms. Defined gut microbiomes. Here's why the two are connected. 🧵

His kindness and creativity will be missed.
Excited to share our new paper in Science Advances @science.org
In this work, we uncover how a disease-linked TRPC3 mutation, together with a cerebellum-specific splice isoform, stabilizes the channel in an open state, drives Calcium overload, and promotes neurodegeneration. (1/4)
Posting on behalf of (soon-to-be) Dr. Samira Monshietehadi (not on Bluesky) -- "I’m very excited to announce that my PhD thesis project is now a preprint! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6.... We show how Müller glia engage with growing retina vasculature in an activity-independent manner."(1/11)

Yes, and — if we want to be prepared to make unexpected discoveries, it would be wise to avoid a monoculture of research models.
" @ucsantacruz.bsky.social will develop and implement institution-wide guidelines to evaluate open science, open source software, science communication, and graduate mentoring in merit and promotion." 🙌🏽🙌🏽
proud to see our VPAA, Christina Ravelo, spearheading this effort!
A postdoc fellowship & postbac position are available in the Cell Biology & Biophysics Unit headed by Dr. Antonina Roll-Mecak.
Please send your CV, research experience summary & contact info of three references to Antonina@nih.gov Please write “Tubulin code” in the subject header.
Congratulations @katiejacobs.bsky.social! Come for the beautiful EM images, stay for wonderful weirdness of cell-cell communication mediated by the ECM.
Also, reframe "leading with conclusions" to "bottom line up front" or BLUF. With BLUF they know what you proposal is about first, then dive into the evidence and feasibility.
Nice! I have a signed copy of the 2nd edition from grad school.
3i is hiring a Microscopist - repost & tell a friend!

I really enjoyed your talk and learned a ton! Thank you. 🙏
Woodson wrote in 1927. “We should emphasize not Negro History, but the Negro in history. What we need is not a history of selected races or nations, but the history of the world void of national bias, race, hatred and religious prejudice.”

Oh no! 😡 [A friend once found their stolen bike for sale on craigslist and bought it back for $50.]
Grants office just offered a narrow interpretation that only the 10 listed pubs can be called out in the supplement.
Ha, ha, ha.
One thing I do not like is the embedded idea that contributions to science are captured in 5-10 publications. Some contributions build over years and multiple papers…sometimes more than 5.
Yup. Leaves me inclined toward declining the subsequent request to review.
Thank for highlighting our work!
cognitive reframing ahead of quals:
❌ I will be stuck in a room with a firing squad of friends and allies whose eyes will go red like robots in the movies for 2 hours to grill me
✅ THEY will be stuck in there with ME while I talk a 2 hour blue streak about my very favorite stuff in the world 😌
Thank you! Roger’s legacy is full of color and playfulness. He is missed.
#wormwednesday how to be sure, really sure that you will not fail to run away from noxious chemicals…

There is always the Clandinin rule: Estimate the time, double the number, and increase the unit by one notch. 1 day = 2 weeks. Does that help?
Congrats to Guosong Hong, a/prof @stanfordbrain.bsky.social, on receiving the inaugural #BiophotonicsDiscovery Impact of the Year Award!
Hong is honored for achieving optical transparency in live animals via absorbing dyes, a transformative advance in #biophotonics. 💡
